Cheers Iraklis Probably not. I'd love to see the Interdoms at Addington, the best harness track in the southern hemisphere. GeorgeTheNZHarnesRacngStar 34 Report post Posted November 26, 2021 No, the interdominions are slowly turning into just another race/carnival unfortunately. It's a real shame and was an end of an error them being moved out of NZ. Not good for the longevity of the sport, harness racing has a bigger following in NZ per capita than it does in Australia so this is was a really disappointing announcement IMHO. The decision was made with a short term outlook as with so many decisions these days.

The very last series run was at Alex Park and Nat was doing the kickin' Butt with Ultimate Sniper in 2019. Mark won the trot. The Ozzies got zip. Usually in history, you had to wait 8 years to get it back to the same venue. So Alex Park (if still open) should apply for the 2027 series possibly? GeorgeTheNZHarnesRacngStar 34 Report post Posted November 26, 2021 I still think back to that series when Our SIr Vancelot won. By memory Christian Cullen looked a good thing and pulled out injured after the first heat, then Agua Caliente looked unbeatable and the same happened then we had to give it up to the champion Aussie in the final where he led them a merry dance. Classic series. Thejanitor and Iraklis

The actual Last one (Interdominion) I went to was the year after ELSU won, down In Tassie where BLACKS A FAKE started off his incredible streak of wins , (Blackie did have a 2nd placing at Auckland too in a Grand Final some years later) . The Tassie Grand Fiinal was worth $1,500,000 (900k for winner) as was sponsored by Wrest Point Casino that has been 'kindly' collecting the pensions of the elderly Tassie folk each fortnight for near 50 years now lol , and un-surprisingly the Casino still going strong lol. Is a shame the harness racing has faded a bit. Iraklis

4bettor-orworse 21 Report post Posted November 26, 2021 Was only a child at the time but the 83 series sticks in my mind. I was more interested in running around and badgering grandad for a chocolate bar from the tuck shop behind the main stand roughly somewhere around where the admin offices now are. I remember the horses' names vividly and have rewatched the series videos in more recent years. Pacers: Popular alm, armalight, gamalight, hands down, bonnies chance. A series dominated by the aussies but Delightful Lady got a third placing in the final. Trotters: Scotch Notch, Jenner, Basil Dean, Stormy Morn Two distance / start anomolies: I think the 83 series above had a round of standing start mile races In more recent times there was a 3200m mobile final. eljay 1,711 Report post Posted November 26, 2021 The Industries obsession with Aussie racing these days has taken a lot of the glamour out of many races. ID's now very ho hum to most Kiwis. Auckland Cup shifted back to the cold winter to suit the Aussies - remember last time they did that, didn't last long and a crowd that was disgraceful. But of course they dont appear to have learnt from that. I wonder if the subject will be raised at the ATC AGM next month? Idolmite 2,460 Report post Posted November 27, 2021 1983 with Popular Alm and Gammalite was the best series I can remember. For some reason Australasia just doesn't have enough good horses these days to run such a series. Look at the names of the top 3 in each final over the last 10 years, then look at the top 3 in the years before 2011. No comparison. There are few horses in this year's series that'd be capable of putting any bums on seats outside of immediate family. The pacing series looks over before the first heat has been raced. Even ten years ago every heat was stronger than what this year's final would be. The series isn't worth resuscitating without talent, and for some reason we don't have enough of it anymore. As mentioned above, Gammalite, Popular Alm, Armalight, Hands down, Delightful Lady, Bonnies Chance - we don't even see one that good in a series now, let alone six. Cheers Iraklis Nz results pretty solid last night with Alta Orlando (2nd )and Triple Eight (4th) Majestic Man (1st) for Nz owners in opening round. Think 'Blacks A Fake' with his 4 grand Final wins was the best winner I saw. hard to believe his 3 starts in NZ didn't gain a win in his career. See the horse IRAKLIS was a good second at Auckland GrandFinal too . behind 'Our Sir Vancelot' (Brian Hancock) 1999 . wouldn't you of enjoyed that race more than 'Elsu' winning even ?
