Do clubs not ring - or group email - such trainers and say 'Listen, chap, $60,000 on offer and there are 4 spots available'?

Funny enough generally no but Ellerslie did text on Tuesday afternoon saying which races were left open with the stakes money noted.

Nice horse that Bermadez…fresh with Oliver on seems the way to go with him. By Tavistock so should go further too.

D.J had a horse in his stable called Bermadez. Made it to open company when the handicap system was true and punters went the races.

Certainly major structural problems and increased stakes money hasn't helped. They are hardly jumping out of the trees to race at Ellerslie for the big money. Not a good look in the CD this week either. Three 7 horse fields yesterday for good money, and tomorrow starts with four races with 7,5,7,6 starters, and that's before any more scratchings.

And yet at the same time there are plenty of horses in the SI continually affected by poor programming and a lack of dates. Certainly a strange old industry being poorly run and probably on its last legs.

hardly on it's last legs WD , even in NZ

here it is halcyon days according to trainers and bloodstock agents, melb premier sale an example of the strength in the market.

BUT for all  the talk about the terrific prizemoney it's still massively disproportionate to returns , is it yearling prices too high or the lower end prizemoney maidens to BM 64/70/84 etc too low.?

it's ok if you have a stakes horse but what % of yearlings turn out to be at that level.

if you cant get a saturday class horse you generally wont recover your costs

when a potential buyer asked racing media man Ken Callander his advice on buying a yearling he replied  " only buy one if you can afford to get nothing back"

the overwhelming majority of yearlings purchased never pay their way, that's the risk we take.

why is it so 🙄
