Ohokaman 5,760 Report post Posted October 25, 2021 After all the giggling at the weekend by those previously paid out for Zaaki’s win in the Cox Plate, I note this now in Australia. Chances of that happening in Petone ?. scoobysnacks

scoobysnacks 386 Report post Posted October 25, 2021 I reckon 70% of those paid out early will reinvest on the Cup anyway - probably on Incentivise. JJ Flash and Memphis3 1

We're Doomed 4,824 Report post Posted October 25, 2021 Sounds like a weird business practice to me, paying out early. Lots to lose and absolutely no upside to it. Why do they do it? Gruff

Why do they do it? Plenty of upside in increased advertising for this years race and into the future and warm fuzzies for the Brand and probably an instant profitable outcome from the race. Sportsbet have apparently paid out $6 mill on this and the story has gone around the world ,and likely to create added interest in UK etc who don't have the recent number of runners. Its the biggest gambling event of the year in Aussie so the $6mill likely to recouped many times over ! Great for the Brand ! chelseacol and JJ Flash

Yep. And they know they can go wrong - even then they still win. Loyal punters with $ in their pockets they wouldn't otherwise have had. scoobysnacks 386 Report post Posted October 25, 2021 Exactly. Bookmakers are trying to impress their customers, which sets the corporates apart from government-run agencies like the TAB. To their credit, the NZ Tab didn't make deductions for Zaaki's removal in the Cox Plate, so it's a step in the right direction. chelseacol, JJ Flash and MS26
