Sad about Kaikoura

Very sad to see Kaikoura giving up on trying to race at home. If Cindy does let South Islanders have some freedom by then it will be interesting to see what sort of crowd they get at Addington.

A totally different outcome I suspect.

Comparing an iconic 'country' meeting with the concrete jungle in City a few hours  drive away hard to do.

Kaikoura overflows with Camper vans and being Kaikoura's main event for year it heaves with locals.....The Cup day on Monday is also Marlborough Anniversay day so much traffic from there as well and dozens travel from Nelson. Cantabrians love Harness but at Addington , hardly a trip to get excited about.

Crowd would be much less , Covid restrictions could worsen that but off-course betting should hold up.

The Cost of getting the performers there should result in savings ,ditto admin and betting staff .

Fields could be of better quality ,Kaikoura not a favoured surface for many . IMO

Kaikoura is a holiday destination event which can't be replicated at Addington, irrespective of Covid. As a North Islander, getting to Kaikora is on my "bucket list". In contrast, we used to have an annual pilgrimage down for Cup Week but now don't go as find Cup Day an ordeal for someone keen on the actual racing (battling through the party goers, having to watch the screen as can't see sections of the track, freezing, boiling or buffeted in the open stand all day). Slightly better when an owner - but not much. Much better to save our money and watch from home. We don't really have any harness holiday races up here anymore. So sad as means the general population in the north doesn't get to see harness racing as a fun, family-friendly entertainment (although Cambridge does try at some twilight meetings).

It's disgraceful this decision has been made without consulting the Kaikoura Community.

It's understood this decision has been primarily made by one person based in Christchurch who has a role with the club who is terrified of their husband and family catching Covid19, despite having the vaccine,  "because it's spread down from Auckland and is now in the Taranaki and will be in the South Island in a couple more weeks..."

They have said they have followed Government Guidance so have canned the event.

Perhaps they should go and get a different job because they are going to be held to account for their decision-making.

May I suggest those who would normally attend or partake in any Horse Racing community events speak up how you feel about these decisions and hold these people to account for Failing to Consult with those at the coalface and live in these communities.

Also ask for full disclosure of Email and other communications between these people as you have a right to know the background to these decisions and who is not following Rule Of Law, nor acting with the best interests of the wider Racing Communities interests.

Contact the Media to as the more who speak up is the only way we will get our Racing back up and running because Mr Grant Robertson is doing ZILCH to assist our industry.

Perhaps it's time some in Parliament lost their Warrants.

And others were given the sack.

Racecourses are wide open spaces where one can Space Out and have Picnics, indeed they are traditional Picnic Spots

Is the Kaikoura races made up of both days they have recently had ? If so would they consider swapping the usual Sunday programme with the Traditional Monday programme. Thus would have more interest punting wise  I would think.

Given the mix of unvaccinated people spreading Covid around outside Auckland and the lack of any checks at the Cook Strait, I suspect the majority of SI people are ok staying in L2, especially those working in hospitals or  predisposed to bad covid outcomes. Its probably only a month or so till the vax levels are higher and the covid passes are up and running. Pictures of the Kaikoura meeting in previous years have shown the in-field packed with people and campervans. Just how could the Kaikora Club volunteers prevent their big day becoming a super spreader event? And under L2 restrictions who and how are they going to turn away those at the gate and prevent subsequent mixing? From the signals we are getting we'll all be needing covid passes to get into big events. It will be interesting to see which race meetings will fall within the criteria.

Given the mix of unvaccinated AND vaccinated people spreading Covid around-------        can't have you disseminating falsehoods Nelli.

I had specified outside Auckland: The initial case in Hamilton, the driver in PN and the woman in Northland were all unvaccinated

You miss the point Nelli-- the three you mention may have been positive, but you have no evidence they SPREAD it anywhere. My point is that anyone carrying it, both vaccinated and unvaccinated, can pass it on so at this stage vaccination only diminishes the CLINICAL danger to those who are vaccinated.

Don’t bank on it WD, these clowns are so out of their depth it would be funny if not so serious. No cases in the South for how long now…..?!

This latest fiasco with the gang member up here in Northland ( on a drug run or sex trip take your pick ) who is telling them nothing unsurprisingly, is a result of their lax border controls…Hone is ropable and has the bros out policing it now so any Aucklanders doing a runner can expect a warm welcome..

The truck driver didn't spread it as he followed protocols, tested positive through regular testing and went into straight into isolation in PN without even going home to Auckland. However, all 28 Waikato cases (so far) are connected to the original Hamilton case who was very ill by the time he turned up at hospital. We've yet to find out what joy the woman and missing friend spread round Northland, hence the L3 lockdown. Our NZ official covid webpage cites 2 scientific studies showing vaccination reduces transmission to close household contacts by 40-50%.

See our posts over in Thoroughbred Cafe re Submissions on Covid Response Act - Please speak up and put in submissions.

There's zilch chance of Mystic Megan Predicting what may or may not happen anywhere in future.

It's overdue all the Fearmongering which has been pushed into our lives across the world by 'Behaviour psychologists, Professor Susan Michie and her husband Robert West, SAGE UK NUDGE GROUP,  also known to factually be the Fake Reverend Robert West who was a party to instigating the Lincolnshire riots in the UK in 2005 ceased for once and for all.

The fact New Zealand 'Scientists' and Public Health Advisors used there works on the people of New Zealand is shameful, negligent and unacceptable.

In fact some may consider it to be criminal that we have ever been subjected to their Toxic and Divisive behaviours, if you don't know who they are, look them up bc NZ has rubber stamped their works.

The world and we all need to move on and live in the now.

The people of Kaikoura, along with those in Racing deserve the benefit of the doubt to be treated with Respect not as all being contagious nor irresponsible.

Life is for Living and we all need Positivity and joy in our lives for the betterment of Mental well being and the economy.

@Nelli, it's really unfortunate and has been detrimental to the health of the people of New Zealand that such fearmongering has ever happened in our beautiful country.

Volunteers and others should not ever have been scared witless, nor placed in the positions of trying to deal with any of these things, let along the complex nature of Laws.

Do remember the Covid19 modelling has always been disproportionate, some of the university students involved in COVID19 Pandemic Team have always complained about lack of funding and just today another article has appeared.

They appear to be clueless about the wider economy and how we all need to budget and take self responsibility for our health.

Best not to fret or be fearful.

I'm not sure what they would ever call a South Island variant but so far it appears that Alpha is for white people and Delta is what they are calling it for Darker skinned people. That in itself is unacceptable.

We are all one people and the ongoing divisive behaviors need to cease in society in general bc it is NOT the New Zealand way to live or be.

The fact that there's No cases of Covid19 in the District, or for that matter the South Island and mnay other parts of New Zealand is good grounds to seek The State of Emergency Act powers  for Covid19 to be rescinded, as in cancelled.

It's only if there's an outbreak of an Infectious Disease/ Contagious Disease that they have the powers to enforce it in any location, whether it be an individuals home, school, district etc as per the provisions of The Public Health Act as it was intended.

Write to your local District Councils Health/ Medical Officer as to why they have not sought to get it cancelled in the area you live.

It's their legal Duty to do so just like with The Cattle Disease and other Acts..

Have a read of the Public Health Act and the way it was originally set up in the era of 1869 in Papers Past and Hansard.

It's time people who were are paying on Local Councils did their job and held the Director General of Health and others to account.

The current situation we all find ourselves in is Disproportionate.

Thought the South Islanders should have had Kaikoura running, but it's off, so there you go. Have read on here folks are pissed off with restrictions, some seem stupid, like Pukekawa included in Auckland lockdown, and the Sth Island at level 3. It must be the coming transfer of covid which is going to happen surely when restrictions ease. Now will our health system cope? I'm inclined to think no, hence Govt policy has shifted to urge vaccination. You could imagine the hue and cry if NZ happened to get deaths from Covid.
