Interested to see if the stewards have anything to say in regards to the drive of Dreaminsover. In my opinion (and that's all it is) she gave that horse no chance of a dividend bearing place.

Neither did the driver of the horse trying to hold the lead. He might be called "bobble head" by his friends now with the amount of head shaking he did. Have a look at the video It was hilarious.

DREAMINSOVER - raced three wide early stages until reaching the parked position at the 1900 metres. Weakened from the 600 metres. Driver C Negus (assisted by B Negus) was questioned regarding the manner in which she drove when challenging for the lead for a considerable distance during the middle stages before weakening. After considering her explanation, Stewards issued a charge under Rule 868(2) alleging that Mrs Negus had failed to take all reasonable and permissible measures between the 1900 metres and the 1000 metres to ensure her runner was given full opportunity to win or obtain the best possible finishing position by persisting with the challenge for the lead which proved to be to the detriment of her gelding's chances. The Adjudicative Committee adjourned the matter sine die.

The only question is "how long"?

I wonder when or if the charge of One of the drivers involved abusing the other will be heard. Not a good look these days for a male to be threatening a female...

This would be the driver of the lead horse who wouldn't give up the lead??

Why- after official enquiries including C Negus it was found that nobody abused anyone. If you want to be a gossip columnist i hear Socialist Stuff have spaces

Certainly an interesting read , learning about the thoughts ,personalities and actions of those on and off the track.

Throws up a lot questions about the different treatment and inconsistencies in those regulating Harness.

IMO for some time I've thought the lesser, lower profile participants are treated more harshly.

I think the Negus defence put up a good defence making many valid points , with good support from some well respected horsepeople.

The horse is referred to as a slug ......interesting !

I checked one of its previous wins on 21 Feb 2021 when it won well at Addington driven by Ms C Wigg , beating Pete' Dash  driven by Ms C Negus.

I note the horse had 1 x win in first 93 starts and has had 4 further wins in 58 starts in this extended current season.

Obviously a real warrior ,well suited to Amateur racing.

Petes Dash ,another warrior has won twice in this extended season from 71 starts !He had won twice previously from 43 starts.

Back to the decision....IMO exposes a credibility gap in NZ Harness .

No doubt a poor drive, but a few observations ....

When you invite amateurs to drive in tote races you open up this sort of thing. Why many of us don't bet on them. I could say similar things about amateur jockey races which often see horses making runs wide along way from home etc etc.

The pro's often do this sort of thing - seemingly without censure.

Inconsistency is an issue even though the RIU dismiss that out of hand. I part owned a horse which set the fastest lead time Mark Mac the commentator could recall. Stopped at the 600 like it was shot (and it was a decent enough animal). Questions of the driver .... no.

Apply this approach to all races and drivers and this sort of decision won't strike us all as a bit unusual...

I agree. I don't support amateur races being tote races.. Non tote only. Aside from a few drivers like the sisters Whigg and young syndicate maestro, Max Anderson, the rest are mediocre. The standard has got worse lately.

Not everyone is a good driver on the road either but if you legislate on ability you will end up in hot water.     These amateur drivers own horses which would otherwise end up as glue and it not cheap either.   Not everyone who runs the 100 metres is a Usain Bolt.     If you dont want to back them then thats your choice and yours alone.   I will make up my mind if I want to back them and dont need anyone else to tell me if I should or shouldn't.
