Cubes 1,770 Report post Posted September 20, 2021 23 in Foxton 23 in Cambridge 21 in Ashvegas Cubes knows it is Spring and Cubes knows we are coming out of Covid and Cubes knows that one is in CD , one down the mighty South and one somewhere up North.... But kinda feels there is more trialness than racingness.... Export market ? Hopeful owners ? Cubes guesses at least the industry has some level of busyness and that is good.... Any thoughts from others out there in ''Çaferland ?
tasman man 742 Report post Posted September 20, 2021 Well spotted Cubes.....no doubt excitement increasing around Canterbury with Cup week approaching. Hopefully us 'outsiders' will be let in ! Yes , though breeding numbers on decline there still appears to be too many horses ,especially slow horses, for the amount of betting our team of 5 million generates. The wellbred horses and horses with above average ability are still much sought after by overseas buyers but the average 'run of the mill horse' who will win between 0 and 3 races keeps the trainers , agisters, breakers, blacksmiths ,vets and feed merchants in a job but the sustainabilty of the industry in NZ is solely reliant on the resilient owners such as yourself with a few spare dollars to burn. Up north its $2k a month for board and lodgings in a paddock and a little TLC ,$3.5k / month if they racing ,plus transport /vets etc. And then the majority of horses are battling to find a suitable race for a $12 k stake to race in....$6 k to winner less deductions ! Resilient owners......supreme optimists indeed ! As for the betting....hard to bet on many of the winless slugs going around with tiny NZ pools where one can often bet into the much bigger Aussie pools with horses and jockeys you know ! But hang in there ! These trials will be more important than raceday for many........many of the winners will be getting their passports ready for stamping and others will be getting ready for Cup week , avoiding the crippling NZ handicapping system ! Much to look out for......on the videos ! Pam Robson and JJ Flash 1
Talk1 63 Report post Posted September 21, 2021 I looked at the website 4 minutes after the start of the trial I was interested in and the video was already posted. Pleasantly surprised. Cheers tony Patiti and JJ Flash
