We're Doomed 4,824 Report post Posted August 30, 2021 Interesting to compare the attitude in Australia to the NZ approach. That rugby player and netballer in Wgtn had a couple of illegal gatherings with their mates and it sounds like no worries at all from NZ Rugby or Netball authorities. By Brad Waters 12:58pm • 31 August 2021 1 Comments Three of the “Airbnb Five” jockeys involved in an illegal house party at Mornington have lodged appeals against the severity of their penalties. Premiership winner Jamie Kah and fellow riders Ben Melham, Ethan Brown, Mark Zahra and Celine Gaudray were all suspended for three months for ignoring stewards’ orders regarding Covid restrictions. Brown, Melham and Zahra have all lodged paperwork with the Victorian Racing Tribunal appealing the length of their bans, which will keep all five riders out of the spring carnival if they stand. Kah and Gaudray have until 5pm on Tuesday to file their paperwork if they wish to join their fellow riders in appealing their penalties. Jockey Ben Melham has appealed a three-month suspension that would keep him out of the Victorian Spring Carnival. Picture: AAP The Victorian Racing Tribunal is likely to expedite the appeals because the spring carnival has already started with the running of last Saturday’s $1m Memsie Stakes at Caulfield. The VRT could hear the cases before the end of the week. However, any reduction in penalty could be a short-lived win for the jockeys. Stewards hit the five riders on Monday with the serious charges of giving false or misleading evidence about the attendees at the Mornington Peninsula party on August 25. The riders could face further suspensions of a month or significantly more if found guilty. All five riders are undergoing 14 days quarantine before they can ride trackwork again.
