JJ Flash 2,114 Report post Posted July 23, 2021 The Everest is set for a major boon with cashed-up punters in Hong Kong set to bet on the super-rich race for the first time in its history after the Hong Kong Jockey Club allocated a simulcast day to the event. The move is expected to see around A$7m wagered through the Jockey Club tote on the race alone, which will return major money back to racing in New South Wales. Last season a record A$1.2 billion was wagered on simulcast races across 26 days in Hong Kong. It presents a seismic change in direction for the Hong Kong Jockey Club who were originally skeptical of the slot race concept and had held a rare Saturday Sha Tin meeting on the same day as well. The Jockey Club will also bet on the Caulfield Cup on the same day along with British Champions Day at Ascot. Victoria Derby Day will also be simulcasted into Hong Kong for the first time in recent history while the Cox Plate has again missed out after it was pulled from the simulcast schedule following Winx’s retirement. The Everest news marks the first time in recent history the Jockey Club will bet on a race without a “Group 1” tag next to it. “The Everest is Group 1 quality, just not Group 1 recognised so there is no issue on our side supporting it,” Hong Kong Jockey Club director of racing business and operations Bill Nader told News Corp. JJ Flash 2,114 Report post Posted July 24, 2021 Given the HKJC love buying horses at Karaka each year why not try and leverage a racing/TAB simulcast deal with them on a major NZ race. Do it on a Sunday thus allowing top Ozzie jocks to participate as they are all well known up there. mckenzie
