2Piper 408 Report post Posted July 23, 2021 The beading season stays the same (except local stallions can keep serving February/ March) Shuttle stallion will still head back to the States as usual. This year foals and future year foals will only change their age on January 1st. The season will start 1st of January for Harness in future years. I am not sure which season Aug 1st to 31st December 2021 belongs too. ( Other than the fact that Blair Orange and Sarah O"Reilly have literally won their drivers seasons respectively). tasman man 742 Report post Posted July 23, 2021 No horses age on August 1 this year........they change their age on Jan1 2022. As for breeding season a late foal ,born in late summer will no longer be disadvantaged by ageing on Aug 1.....the breeding season stays the same in that horses born from spring thru the summer. HRNZ gave examples... A horse born Jan 2020 turns 1 on Jan 1 2021. A horse born in Nov 2020 turns 1 on Jan 1 2022 A horse born Jan 2021 turns 1 on Jan 1 2022 A horse born Nov 2021 turns 1 on Jan 2023. So horses born in the same breeding season age on the same day. hsvman 295 Report post Posted July 23, 2021 with the new season about to start it would’ve been nice to see Cambridge lift it’s stakes but yet again it’s disappointing to see 8k races programmed for its first meeting. There’s not a lot of incentive to race a horse when a club like this offers the worse stakes in the north island , anyone traveling from puke or further basically has to run 3rd to break even for the week

The interesting thing is that the foal payment date could actually precede the birth and/or microchipping if mare foals late. Also would the States regard the pre January NZ foals as part of the new years crop ? Would not think so. Remember that Under Cover Lover was a January foal that enabled her to race as a 2yo in the States.
