Crow 226 Report post Posted July 20, 2021 Everyones favourite topic this time of the year but after reading Paul Neilson quote saying with the Ellerslie hill sale a significant amount of money from that should be put back into jumps racing as really the Ellerslie Hill belonged to jumps racing. Yes one can't disagree the hill is a wonderful spectacle for jumping but answer this, will more money into jumps racing give them more jockeys , more horses for jumps racing, more jumps trainer as we have the top jumps trainers racing with a number of jumpers all at pension age or more and they are all in the CD. The South Island has only surviving on North Jockeys going down to take mounts . The CD cant get enough even in a 6 horse field. The northern area has very few chasers and the fields are only with CD horses keeping them going. Have we seen a full field of jumpers go around anywhere this season. The late Ken Browne and K Myers have been the back bone of jumps racing for many years and in its current format is unsustainable. meomy 971 Report post Posted July 20, 2021 It is timely and fitting to bring to the fore the words of the late Dr Oliver Nicholson, from 1945 (note this is War Time and Depression era so there are similarities in time related to enjoyment of life for all and the wider economy) who was a long time Doctor and Administrator of the Auckland Racing Club on the occasion of his retirement as President.
