Guest Ben0104 Report post Posted June 3, 2011 I try very hard NOT to remember the big collects I just missed out on. My worst was a Pick Six at Hawkes Bay some years ago. I had several runners in one leg which was the Hawkes Bay Cup. One of my runners was Prince Haze who I think was ridden by Gary or Brent Philips. It was paying around $20. Ran a close second to the John Wheeler trained runner who's name escapes me. Von Trapp I think? My memory recalls both Gary and Brent Philips were involved in the finish? Had all the other winners and the pick six paid over 600k.grrrr What made the result sting a little more for me was three other aspects to the result. The first was John Wheeler admitting in the Sunday paper that his horse had been set up big time for a punt..grrrr I originally had the horse in my top picks but left it out after it ran a disappointing race in a Waikato hurdle races days before the Hawkes Bay Cup. (big part of the set up) The second aspect was the fact Prince Haze protested against the winner. The protest that looked a very good one but was dismissed. The other aspect of it that irked me was the fact the connections of Prince Haze spent the next couple of years fighting the result of the race even as far as our courts as they were convinced a serious injustice had occurred on the track and in the room. If any of the above is off the mark it's due to a fading memory and a part of my psyche that wont allow me to remember certain things as clearly as I could. Perhaps that's just age and another gem to deal with alongside an increase in ear and nasal hair. What's happening
