Jim Gibbs still winning races

Recommended Posts

Former top trainer and NZ Hall of Famer Jim Gibbs was back in winners circle  today at his his current passion Harness Racing.

He won the 4yr old Group 1 Jewels event with South Coast Arden which he co-owns.

60 years ago Jim won the McGregor Grant Steeples at Ellerslie 3 x times as a jumps jockey.

A life with horses and still going strong.

The McGregor Grant Steeples will be run tomorrow for possibly the last time at Ellerslie.

good on ellerslie for raising the stakes money to astronomical levels for this steeplechase  ( $50,000 😂 )

amazing , n0?

makes those $10,000 maidens pale into insignificance .

did someone say KFC

$10k races are for maidens/non-winners.

Overall there are 98 jumps races planned over 31 meetings.Ellerslie holds four of those meetings.

There are 10 meetings considered Premier where the main steeples and hurdlers race for min $50 k.

Ellerslie holds 3 of those meetings including the Great Northern meeting in Sept where the two big races are $125k each .

Two steeples races per day means 8 races go over the hill all year.

Today the weather is like the current Aussie cricket team....and their rugby teams etc etc......BLEAK.

Constant drizzle will mean track very heavy and folk attending will be less than the staff there.

So jumps lovers need to BET heavily on Jumps races to sustain them and the few trainers and riders who prepare the horses !

A lot of us love the the jumps ,but few go to watch and fewer bet on them.

But only bet money you can afford to lose so bet with your shoelaces not your shoes

116317.74 in AUD as at today, pogo.

Just got my package for Everest Day in October - been to three of those but not, sadly, the last one due to effing Covid.

Redzel was the best horse I ever made megabucks on.

Want to go visit him, now in happy retirement, and say 'Ta, mate!' in person...

And what are the $A stakes for jumping races in the 'Michelin Star' States of New South Wales [AUS] and Queensland [AUS] ?

Name the biggest jumps races in those States , they seem to strive to be the biggest and best racing states in NZ.

Certainly targeted a lot in flat racing by the champions CWaller[NZ] and JMcDonald[NZ]

ohh look someone has had an SCS attack 🤣 nearly as funny as a $10.000 metropolitan race or a $50,000 BIG race, irrespective of it's location.

very uncivilised indeed😜

keep looking for the flowers and let the weeds run rampant, and the kiwi racing fraternity wonder why they race for peanuts🙄

did someone say KFC !
