shaneMcAlister 1,425 Report post Posted April 28, 2021 (edited) The Rider Horse NZ had a dispersal sale had 121 lots sold for a total of $192,000. Average price was $1,586, medium $500. 22 horses sold for $100. Cattle in Frankton sale yards average more. In fact sheep would sell for more than $100. That was a serious glut of MK and MF offspring onto market in one lot Shane , . Let's hope they all end up finding a home in end ,. Leg of lamb I got the other day 30 bucks so there's some profit in sheep , was nice though . shaneMcAlister

I would have been interested in one or two at $100. Was that petfoods dare I ask, though I know petfoods are having trouble getting rid of offal these days and can't take more than a couple at a time. tasman man 742 Report post Posted April 29, 2021 One could wonder why more folk don't take a punt with some of these horses , but I guess any inexpensive purchase price is soon forgotten once the cost of housing, caring and preparing a horse becomes a reality. Even those who prepare horses for resale must baulk at the ever rising costs especially of labour !. With the costs increasing again ,the resilience of the NZ owner regularly happy to race for $10k total stake has to be marvelled at ! Irishbay 18 Report post Posted April 30, 2021 I agree Tasman man Given the low stakes here in NZ the sale offered an economical way of getting into some nice blood. Good luck to those that purchased

I am sure that they were on Gavelhourse because I remember looking at them. In fact a couple were recommended to me but I didn't take it any further. The first posting at the top of the thread was 29 April 2021 so I am guessing that the sale took place in the 3rd & 4th weeks of April 2021. Insider 3,961 Report post Posted February 6 I was actually hoping that a few good horses came out of the sale for bargain prices. Maybe in the next lot that Crusty looks up, there will be a good horse or two. crustyngrizzly

Insider 3,961 Report post Posted February 6 Thanks Crusty for all the work. It doesn’t make for very good reading, even the ones given a chance. You question the quality of the mares. I think that the main stallion used was a major downgrader. Dreadful in fact. crustyngrizzly

Blue 1,099 Report post Posted February 6 Funnily enough I suspect if you did the same exercise on the 500 odd yearlings that go through Karaka you probably get the same net result, relatively speaking - if not worse in most cases. nomates
