Baz (NZ) 1,719 Report post Posted April 26, 2021 Must be some sort of record the amount of late scratching's they're having around at the start today?
Memphis3 1,222 Report post Posted April 26, 2021 It’s a joke. The minute they back a horse out it’s going to be scratched. Do they pay these vets? Are they too scarred to let a backed out horse run in case it arses up half the field. Is there a report on reason for scratching? Pretty disappointing effort. Should be an explanation in the stewards report later in the day. Memphis3
Houlahan's Dream 518 Report post Posted April 26, 2021 There did seem to very few attendants helping out.Not sure if that contributed but seemed...odd. Nice hot chips in the sun though. We're Doomed
We're Doomed 4,824 Report post Posted April 26, 2021 Just good to see Avondale racing on ANZAC Day. Nice to see a bit of racing tradition continue. Baz (NZ)
Blue 1,080 Report post Posted April 26, 2021 A million years ago the card started with the " Over The Top" hurdles won in 1970 (??) by Great Summit owned by Harley Bowler of Cambridge. Baz (NZ)
chevy86 2,680 Report post Posted April 26, 2021 Just as many jockey scratchings for being "Unwell", "dehydrated" and "overweight'--too bad for the owners, punters and those that are foolishly tempted to support the industry. Waipa used to race by themselves on ANZAC Day then were joined by Avondale.Waipa used to have a highweight late in the day so the jockeys from Avondale could get down to it. tasman man and Chris Wood

Careful, Weasel57, the ARC programme for June will likely include a Boxing Day Classic! Whether that's late for 2020 or early for 2021, we - and they - will have no idea! But don't just knock the ARC - the dolts in Sydney have well and truly f*cked up the 'Easter' programming over there in recent years, too. What are vetting rules around the late scratchings? If they see a sign of blood (small cut, nick) are the vets forced to scratch under the rules? If so that would be insane IMO. Would like a clarification as agree far too many late scratchings that immediatley change the complextion of a race and the punter is left helpless to change tact.. Archer 296 Report post Posted May 2, 2021 Was a grand day, other than getting beaten a nose in the first two races, missing the bet (Verstappen) in the third and then getting late scratched in another two. Heaps of people, loads of kids, plenty of attractions and some great racing on New Zealands best track surface ... All up a great day .................
