Andrew Adkins aboard The Snooperstar must have been feeling a state of deja vu after almost going down half way up the straight! This time caused by James McDonald angling out severely on the eventual winner Ahead Start. Hugh Bowman has obviously learnt nothing from his time on the sidelines that caused Andrew Adkins serious injuries last year!  Bowman at the very same moment also angled out sharply on his mount Rothenburg with very little room to do so which subsequently clipped heals crashing heavily to the ground and fatally injuring the horse!   NOT THE FIRST TIME HUGHIE! Suspensions and court case's could be the order of the day? Thoughts anyone?...or am I totally wrong and just full of emotional blindness??

That's the great aussie racing product that's all the rage and rave, bloody sad about the demise of the injured horse, certainly makes one feel quite sick, I see they lost one at riccarton as well, must be so devastating for owners and trainers, was always pleased to see our old boy get around in one piece, first and foremost , living the dream retirement these days, very well cared for.

The Snooperstar – J McDonald,rider of Ahead Start, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding that near the 200m,after being held up on the heels of Redicon,he did permit his mount to shiftto the outside of Redicon when not clear of TheSnooperstar,resulting in The Snooperstar being taken out and making contact with the hindquarter of Boom Boom Basil,losing its rightful running and having to be severely checked. J McDonald's licence to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence onThursday 29 April 2021 and to expire on Saturday 8 May 2021 on which day he may ride. Leaving the 200m The Snooperstar was again severely checked to avoid the fallen Rothenburg. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Ahead Start –Stewards permitted J McDonald to ride the gelding ½kg over its allotted weight of 54.5kg.

Rothenburg –An inquiry was opened into the reasons for Rothenburg falling near the 200m. Jockey H Bowman explained that after being held up in the early part of the straight he had observed J McDonald (Ahead Start) commence to shift out to secure clear running to the outside of Redicon approaching the 200m. He added that he had anticipated Ahead Start securing this run and continuing its forward momentum and for this reason he also commenced to shift out to improve to follow that runner, however when Ahead Start then commenced to crowd TheSnooperstar and did not continue to improve forward he then made contact with Ahead Start and had to check from the heels of Redicon,which was commencing to tire at that point. He stated that when being checked from the heels of Redicon his mount,which was travelling strongly, did not respond to his efforts to check and avoid the heels of Redicon at that point and as a consequence it struck the heels of Redicon and fell. In finding that H Bowman had not ridden in a careless manner Stewards accepted his anticipation of Ahead Start continuing forward was reasonable and that had the interference not occurred to The Snooperstar he would have been able to follow Ahead Start. Further,the Stewards found that Redicon commencing to tire after the interference being suffered by The Snooperstar had also contributed to Rothenburg striking the heels of the Redicon.A post-race veterinary examination found Rothenburg to have sustained a catastrophic injury to the off-hind limb,necessitating immediate euthanasia on humane grounds.

Saint Hugh got 17 days  for his effort on Port Loius when he knocked 3 over. 

Obviously no big meeting coming up

They need to rein these cowboys in before someone is killed. There is a difference between competitive riding and dangerous riding.
The word "anticipation" is an interesting one when in defence of such a crime.

It was MacDonald on the winner that barged out, surprised there was no inquiry. Bowman played dominoes later on with Port Louis that had been sensationally backed from 30’s into $5...skittled several getting out.

Maybe a big downside to these glamorous carinvals racing for huge stakes, and seems the attitude is to risk life, and  limb to win, and at all costs, we all hear about the the glitz and glamour of Australian racing, but these sort of incidents will give the animal rights brigade more fodder to push their case, think I will stick more to our local product.
