DEAN MCKENZIE MOVES TO FULL TIME MANAGEMENT ROLE

The TAB New Zealand (TAB NZ) Board have appointed Dean McKenzie as Chief Transition Officer, a full time management role leading the organisation’s day to day responsibilities and ensuring a smooth transition to a permanent Board once they are appointed.

The selection follows the announcement earlier today by the Minister for Racing, Hon Grant Robertson of the appointment of Liz Dawson as Interim Chair of TAB NZ, replacing McKenzie who has stepped down from his prior role as Chair to take on the new position.

Chair of the interim TAB NZ Board, Liz Dawson said the TAB needed surety and consistency through this critical phase of the business as it transitioned to its new focus following the passing of the Racing Industry Act last year.

“By the end of this year the TAB will need to have supported the finalisation of racing reforms, developed a five-year strategy and a Statement of Intent, and ensured a smooth transition to a new, permanent Board once they are appointed. The Board recognises this ambitious programme of work, on top of leading day to day business, requires immediate focus and we’re delighted Dean has agreed to take on this responsibility, said Ms Dawson.

“For various reasons the appointment of a new Board has taken a bit longer than anticipated, so to provide surety to the business, its staff and racing and sport stakeholders, we’ve acted now to appoint Dean until a permanent CE is appointed by a new Board.”

Chief Transition Officer, Dean McKenzie said he was pleased to commit to the TAB in a new role as it transitions to a more commercial, customer-focused business.

“I’m looking forward to focusing on managing the business through this period of change and delivering on our immediate objectives while ensuring a smooth transition to a new Board and Chief Executive when it happens, said McKenzie.

“From a day to day perspective, I don’t anticipate much change to our activities but I am looking forward to having a more hands-on role and working with the current leadership team to deliver great betting products for our customers and maximise profit for racing and revenue for sport.”

I have to plead some degree of ignorance in this area. When we talk about running the TAB are we talking about running a purely betting and gaming organisation? Is the actual racing industry being run totally separately and independently, and if so by whom? If the three codes independently run their own operations who oversees them, who finalises the racing calendar?

Maybe he will be a genius and reduce the horrendous takeouts to be the most competitive platform in the world.

Imagine punters WW flocking to little old NZ TAB

The TAB doesn't believe in multi-scale marketing, so that will never happen.

NZTAB is now solely about the gambling side of things and operates Trackside. Under new Racing Act the codes run their own business and receive funding from new  Racing NZ board which is 1 member from each code and 2 independents The TAB give out funds earned to the new board for them to decide who gets what in terms of funds.

Racing calendar is decided by Codes who then pass it to NZTAB for approval given they can only handle so many meets at a time in terms of logistics

Hope this helps

Trackside is necessary for racing. TAB is not. With new technology, banking products etc, clubs can run their own betting completely bypassing the TAB and the myriad of parasitic bookmakers feeding off racing. Prior to the 1950's there was no TAB. Racing still existed. The mobile phone with the ability of scanning documents or recognizing its owners voice means bets can be placed into a pool without any TAB involvement. TAB and NZTR duplicate services such as results, fields etc. All a punter would need is NZTR info. Dump the TAB and the army of directors, managers, consultants, chairmen etc.

Must be  a full moon today in your area. You clearly have no idea about current NZ gambling laws.
