Yes totally agree. You can’t come that wide in a field like that and expect her to win. She ran further than all the other horses. Not a good ride by JMac. It’s a pity we are in lockdown and Opie or Troy couldn’t have gone over to ride her. Anyway she gave her best and we still love Melody Belle and will miss her when she retires.

The very wide draw and the track was against her, so what was James supposed to do?  She has never run that distance before. If she wins she is a superstar and if she loses, it is a bad ride by him according to some.

Sounds like everyone would have preferred her to have run The Chosen One got.

Yes doesn’t it. And that worked out fine. Another Kiwi, drew 14 of 14 , ridden forward and wide and had experience over longer distances and yet faded to 11 of 14. No pleasing some people though.

I was applauding the Rosehill track staff.

To get a Good 3 track after all the rain they had was commenable. Compared to Awapuni, which looked like a heavy surface - it's amateur hour in NZ.

However, the inside was a massive fast lane and killed the racing yesterday. Thankfully, it was picked up early and most punters started backing those going forward on the rail.

Melody Belle's forced pattern made it hard for her yesterday.  I thought she was going to run a great placing at one stage.  Incredible mare that has been handled exceptionally throughout her career, to perform as a 2yo at the top level and still performing today is dream stuff.  Well done connections.

IMHO she is just a couple of lenghts off being a cox plate horse or a Verry Elleegant.

Oh to own one half as good.

Go well in retirement and hopefully a successful breeding future.
