Shocking driving

Recommended Posts

Penultimate race at Invercargill saw 2 horses go absolutely bonkers for a whole lap, with a Taste of Honey being driven amazingly hard outside Jody Direen .. Kirstin Barclay just didn't give in till it got to the lead, despite having the chance to drop into trail after half a lap or so. They were 10 - 12 lengths clear of rest at that point. She undoubtedly cost Taste of Honey the win, because it amazingly clung to 3rd although down to a walk. I hope she hasn't ruined the horse ... shocking drive.

She certainly went hard. 2 seconds faster than any other race.  Didn't seem to notice the leader didn't want to hand up.

The leader had a couple of stablemates in it including the Race Favourite. Which won the race. so the race plan was sound. (Hurrell instructed to lead with the outsider)

'A taste of Honey' was the danger to the stable. Leave it parked out , and working was their goal and it paid off beautifully and easily. Teams are Dreams.

Good call and exactly why i and others will never bet on races down South.

But wait- the sleepy Stipes may have seen something odd which makes a change

"After speaking with Drivers M Hurrell and K Barclay Stewards opened and adjourned an enquiry into the tactics adopted through the middle stages."

Odds on either of them getting a holiday- ????????

One driver a few months back got 6 months for a drive where he didn't give his horse the best chance so what's the difference here?

After the race a vets inspection stated Jody Direen had a elevated heart rate and respiratory rate, needs a vets clearance, one wonders why.

It's a tough one Mikey. sometimes these things happen. Leading is generally accepted as 'giving your horse a chance to win'. Hurrell obviously instructed to lead , so wasn't handing up without the struggle.

An Important Point here is , Barclays horse wasn't pulling trying to get the lead, it was off the bit from the start. So Hurrell on the early leader, would be thinking surely she won't persevere trying to head him off. Wrong. Barclays horse still chance to win home turn trying to go with the winner. brave horse. hard drive.
