Moved up from the south to Cam Jones stable but scratched despite trainer  wanting to start it and going as far as the room to do so. Heres the Stewards report so make of it what you will

JOHNNY NEVITS - acting on the advice of the on-course Veterinarian Stewards spoke with trainer C Jones regarding their intention to scratch the gelding due to soreness in the off front leg after examination. Mr Jones subsequently filed a Request for a Ruling disputing the Stewards decision, and after consideration of the evidence from the Stewards, Mr Jones and the on-course Veterinarian Ms Williamson, the JCA declared JOHNNY NEVITS to be a late scratching at 12.45 pm. A veterinary clearance is required prior to the gelding resuming. Trainer C Jones defended a charge under Rule 863 that he attempted to start an unsound horse to start in a race with the matter being adjourned to a later date.

JJ mate, that beggars belief.....how the hell can he defend/dispute the charge, I mean the Vet agreed horse was unsound etc what the hell are we comin to?....

Cheers Iraklis

On another site some are taking a different view- the vets dont know the horse etc.

Any vet knows when a horse is lame as do a lot of experienced horse people. Might it have something to do with the amount of $$$$ that was on the horse despite  its less than stellar record??

The report does not tell us how it became evident the horse was lame and who told the vet stewards to check the horse out. Being  the fact it was only standing in the stable block.

Another issue , if the horse had been working good between the last two racedays the odds were going to be short;  surely if it was lame , it would not have been backed in ?

What I have heard was that the TAB set the fixed odds and they were short. Correct ??

I am going to asume that someone  (other than Cam Jones) saw the horse walking to the stable area and rushed to tell the stewards it was possibly lame ?

Another perplexing issue is the fact Cam Jones is charged with  presenting a lame horse to the races and intending to start it . Why on earth is there a regulation that LETS a trainer file a dispute notice of a stewards ruling under thiese circumstances ? IHe is somehow allowed to file so why is he being charged for it ? Integrity double standard ?

No doubt the vet said the horse was lame and should not start and that should be the end if it right ?

Why was the horse scratched at its previous engagement and at what meeting?
