Baxter13 8 Report post Posted February 26, 2021 How many other tracks in Nz have the rail out as far as riccarton? It just shows how over used this surface is. We have other tracks in the South Island that are under used and already in place. Are they planning to use the all weather track for racing at this time of year? Baz (NZ) 1,722 Report post Posted February 26, 2021 These all weather courses being installed are no better than training and trial tracks. Boring racing and a turn off for punters. They'll have their usefulness in Winter getting the better horses ready for the Spring or Australian campaigns. As for racing they'll only be used for the slower Maiden & R65 grades. These will do very little for NZ Racing in returns from turnover. However if a Club other than Ellerslie decided to install a STRATHAYR SURFACE....they'll be laughing all the way to the bank! https://strathayrsolutions.com/turf-solutions/ mckenzie and scooby3051
arjay 451 Report post Posted February 26, 2021 Rail out a long way for sure, but no horses using it, track looked a bit off, same as last meeting there, yet listed as a good3?

I suspect it's all a cunning plan to make the AWT look good. If the course proper was perfect everyone would be saying "why aren't they racing on the course proper?" As it is, when they race on the AWT people will be saying "At least they aren't racing on the course proper." Don't underestimate how clever these Canterbury people are.
