 $300 prize pool 1st $150 2nd $100 3rd $50...win place bet on a single horse, if a dead heat in comp placings then prizes will be split.

Ok rules are as follows.

Pick a horse in each of the selected races, points comp this week 5 points for 1st,3 points for 2nd 1 point for 3rd. Pick two races as you Best races and if they WIN you get double points ONLY. If they only place then normal points apply.

Entries to be done as Race Meeting,Race Number, Horse Number Only. 

Scratchings go onto TAB Favourite.

Entries close 2pm Saturday afternoon.

Race 6 at Mattermatter is a lowly F&M event - I reckon I could beat most of the field on my two aging legs - and Race 8 ain't much better!

My late Dad used to have a bach at Lake Rotoaira, just south of Lake Taupo.

Neat trout fishing (apparently - I just drove the boat if I ventured out onto it) but great walking trails, including the Tongariro Crossing.

I was telling a Maori friend about one such crossing and made the mistake of talking about Mt Narroo hoe e.

Six houts later, I knew every one of the 5623856268562 vowel sounds our Tangatawhenua prefer to use for the oversized hill in question!

Actually historically it was Manga why and most of the older long serving residents still call it that way

 Manga Fai is a relatively recent invention. Thus the name of the town has two meanings. I was also castigated many moons ago by a copper- toned  cousin for saying Patuma -ho (as the locals used to) rather than Patumahoey.
