Miss Andretti, Nature Strip's dam embroiled in breeding saga

The authority has confirmed to the Herald Sun that it's in the early stages of a probe into embryo transfers from top racing mares to surrogate horses. It's understood the thoroughbred breeder and owner under scrutiny is Sean Buckley, chief executive of car repair business Ultra Tune. He also runs Ultra Thoroughbreds in Kilmore, which has more than 300 horses.

It said: “The stewards are in the formative stages of an investigation that relates to thoroughbred breeding.

“We don’t intend to comment on the specifics of that investigation at this time.”

It is understood stewards visited Mr Buckley’s training farm, Baree, in Kilmore, last Friday after receiving a dossier from Ultra Thoroughbreds' former general manager Anthony Swords.

The intelligence, including text messages, pertains to a breeding program in which Mr Swords alleges mares Miss Andretti and Strikeline have had their embryos transferred to a surrogate mare to carry to birth.

Miss Andretti was the 2007 Australian Champion Racehorse of the Year, and is regarded as one the nation's greatest sprinters.

Strikeline is the dam of Nature Strip, which has won more than $6m in prize money and saluted in 15 of its 28 starts.

The Chris Waller-trained gelding won the Group One Black Caviar Lightning on Saturday.

There is no evidence Nature Strip was produced by a surrogacy program.

But Mr Swords has told Racing Victoria Strikeline's latest foal, which is about a month old, was carried by a surrogate.

He has also alleged two embryos from Miss Andretti were transferred to other mares.

It is alleged a colt was euthanised while a filly was kept, which could bring millions as a yearling if put on the market.

Under racing rules, a horse must be naturally bred.

"The whole integrity of racing relies on blood lines," Mr Swords said.

"Miss Andretti has never had a filly. It's like having a Black Caviar. You can name your price."

Although against the rules of thoroughbred racing, unorthodox breeding is allowed in harness racing and polo.

Mr Buckley and Mr Swords are currently embroiled in Supreme Court civil action regarding some 100 covert recordings made by Mr Buckley's former girlfriend, Jennifer Cruz Cole.

Mr Buckley said: "It's all nonsense."

Not the same but even the best studs hit panic button at times , Juddmonte had a very good horse called Endless Summer . Won group races a's juvenile.  Then about year or so later disgruntled former employee came out and told authorities that the horse was born on 29th Dec and they had hit panic button  and registered foal as 1st Jan unbeknown to top management . The horse was DQd from all its aged group racing .

This situation  is going to get nasty as the bloke sounds like his past  dealings are starting to close in on  him, his ex will sing like an Broadway star .
