Banning him for life from all racecourses, does it work?  Surely the gate staff (if any) in 2 years time would not recognise him?!?!

They may well consider giving him a trespass notice at court to cover all licenced racecourses in NZ , give a bit more weight to ban . Can be handed to him as he leaves court . It would be a matter for gate staff and security being well briefed prior to deployment to keep him out  on raceday.  They no doubt have full briefings anyway so bung his mug shot up then .

Was many years ago at the sadly  defunct Hackney Dogs in London a bloke paid few quid to throw a chair on track on final bend if the right dog wasnt winning , cannot remember the sentence it was so long ago but he did it and went down for it  Not quite on the level of Saturday  madness though. .

Totally agree but because he is such a dangerous liability, would love to see him banned from ALL stadiums in NZ

Don’t forget the suffragette Emily Davison who ran onto the track during the Epsom Derby in 1913 and was killed by a horse owned by the King .... one might suggest this lunatic deserved a similar fate on Saturday, and was only saved by the fact NZ jockeys are better than their UK counterparts

Best streak on a racecourse was Tontonan’s Doncaster Hcp win in. 1974. I was on track that day and this totally naked couple ran down the straight as the full field thundered into the straight. In those days, people didn’t shave their nether regions, so the girl looked like she was wearing a fur hat! After the race, asked for a comment, Winning trainer JB Cummings commented that in his opinion, the Colt won by a good length!

A strong message must be handed down

I vote for 6 months, maybe that is what he wants, he might be partial to the taste of gang members private parts.

For days like Wellington Cup day racing clubs must spend a fortune on extra security.  That effort at Trentham last Saturday suggests to me that the security contractors are taking their money under false pretenses.

Another poster suggested that the idiot could get sacked for bringing his employer into disrepute.  My mate in human resources tells me that such an instant dismissal would entitle the idiot to a payout, possibly as high as $40,000, for unfair dismissal.  However; if the idiot had maligned a fudge packer then instant dismissal would be accepted as good business practice and any claim for unfair dismissal would be dismissed.  I am part of that minority who think that standing in front of racehorses with 100 metres to go in a horse race is a much more serious offence than mimicking the mince of a tail gunner.

Come on Tahuei Notts, we have to be better than comments like this on this site.

Yes, I am part of a minority.

If commenting upon the abysmal performance of highly paid security officers is unwelcome then I must accept your vitriolic criticism on the chin.

There is no way the security could have stopped that guy, he sprinted from a way back and then jumped 3 fences. The only way he could have been stopped would have been with a gun, then you would have ended up with a pile of shit lying on the track. Don't think armed security at the races is an option.

I've got a feeling Shane wasn't referring to the assessment of the security guards performance , and in that regard if someone's determined to do something so mad as that  it's more luck than anything if it's stopped , . A stiff sentence will be the best outcome as we cannot have three deep security every 10 metres like  a State Visit of Head of State .

PLEASE, no more security as an over-reaction to this episode. I had to negotiate 3 levels of the goons at Cup week, Riccarton, 2019 just to catch up with Cubes in the Members Stand. They are already an out of control growth industry like road cone marshals!

More security wpundnt have stopped his actions imho , maybe if he was that ratted arguably he would have been seen before and kicked out but I doubt  it Courses will have to review this incident but I don't think they need to throw the baby out with the bathwater on this one . Someone tackled the ref in SA few years back, weird shit happens at times .

I think the security was at fault. That Red Badge rabble were all too busy watching the race instead of the public. They were stationed 20 or so meters apart but not one of them even flinched until the incident was over.If that wasnt bad enough after getting that huge wake up call 2 races later just before the last race 2 streakers jumped the fence in almost the same spot and ran across the track and disappeared into the distance and across the track again to escape over the back fence.Red Badge security shouldnt be paid for the day after these 2 security breaches and maybe they should be asked if they could ensure their workers present themselves in a better condition of fitness in future if they want to keep their jobs.
