Where are the maidens, where is our stake money!

Recommended Posts

In the North Island this time last year there was maiden races at

  • Rotoroa 15 Jan
  • New Plymouth 16 jan
  • Te Rapa 19 Jan
  • Otaki 20 Jan
  • Avondale 22 Jan
  • Wingatuii 23 Jan
  • Te Teko 27 Jan
  • Hastings 29 Jan

This year in same period we have:

  • Wanganui 14 Jan
  • Te Rapa 21 Jan
  • Matamata 25 Jan
  • Hastings 28 Jan

This is half the races.  If you are going to half the races then lets at least double the stakes!!!

Why don't you send a mail to NZTR and ask the same question. They are the ones who do the programming

NZTR monitor this site and would be familiar with Shane's position.

Thanks JJ Flash.  But I have two other questions with NZTR that are met with no replies so I would hardly expect a reply on this.

Go up a notch then.Brians daughter seems to have her finger on the pulse so to speak.

Mediocrity  under MIA and Carter is gone

your bang  on shane  and  i think your only going find this the norm over the years big   clubs  with new synthetic tracks wont want maidens

just another reason to send more ofshore

they  sit there and belt on  . with this new  tab ad about how much  money will go  back  in

but serious  question if they limiting number of races  ,  where will money  to stakes just feed the rich  clubs ?

and have more clubs shut doors

all the lil clubs wil be landed with maiden races

If the line is the industry can't afford the races, then is it time to bring in another sphere of racing , perhaps for less stakes at the smaller venues (I know they are hell bent on selling the lot of them) something that would take racing back to these smaller venues and give the local community something to build on and owners are trainers some more options. It isn't hard, perhaps some lesser form of media to show them on, well less expensive that is.

But something to actually adequately service the industry, surely it isn't too much to ask for the brains trust at NZTR to come up with some ideas, like clubs fund half stakes or something. I know the issue here in NZ is that those meetings would likely be far more successful than a lot of the larger meetings and that in itself would be an issue with the strategy the industry continues to aimlessly pursue for the benefit of but a few!

7 maiden races at Wanganui.full fields too,so what was the problem with Taranaki.Hawkes Bay and Wairarapa over xmas new year with small fields, does anyone have an answer?

Wingatui,(Waikouiti) this sat,I'd say numbers will be strong,2 weeks since Riverton, something wrong if there ain't.

Re Hastings, two North Island meetings on same day should not happen.  The Levin Stakes and Telegraph noms are out shortly (they will be light on numbers).....lets compare these to years gone by.,

We are saturated with Maidens and 65 rated horses in NZ and not enough races for them.  If you are good enough to get out of these grades you generally get sold (except the larger syndicated horses).  Horses that can't get out of these grades will find their careers cut short.  It is very thin above these grades.

That Hawkes bay meeting had has always been poor numbers wise,if that was in South Island it would be shutdown,Wairarapa on jan 2 was helped by 5 trot races.

12 noms for the big race on Saturday at Trentham,11 for another, racings just the same as harness these days, very light on numbers in top class,.

Be interesting to see how many line up in the Wellington Cup,once an iconic race.

Broken record, but the whole thing needs a rejig. That won't happen while NZTR and others have an ulterior motive behind everything they are doing.

I think we are becoming broken records, these sites tend to consume a fair bit of time, could be worse though, could be on facebook,Twitter or whatever, mind you those on there if they chat racing probably the same issues.
