Bomber 4 Report post Posted December 12, 2020 Just looked at the formlines written for the Open 2200m Handicap at Invercargill today. Who writes these? Some TAB publications have this as their only write up. Punters are being given a disservice here with a very shoddy effort from the TAB! Understood these are opinions not facts but they are clearly written by somebody with VERY limited knowledge of racing. Below are the formlines with the errors/inaccuracies bolded underneath. 1. X0259 Wild Jack (11) Stephen Blair-Edie Amless Bohorun (3) 62 (R88) C(13-2-4) Dst(1-0-1) Appreciates the trip. Resuming. Place preferred Resuming? This horse raced on 11th November at Riccarton in the Couplands Mile! No mention of class drop or distance hike. 3. 01X17 Picture Me Rollin (8) Jo-Anne Dalton Daniel Bothamley 59.5 (R87) C(8-4-3) Dst(0) Resuming from spell. Should be thereabouts. Resuming from a spell? This horse also raced on 11th November at Riccarton in the Couplands Mile! No mention of class drop or distance hike. 4. 43334 Dr Velocious (7) K & A Tyler Courtney Barnes 56.5 (R77) C(1-0-1) Dst(5-2-2) Proven at the trip. Behind the placegetters last time. Each-way play Behind the placegetters last time. Wow!! What an observation the horse ran 4th (useless information) 5. 22318 Nesta (5) Stephen Blair-Edie Chris Johnson 55 (R74) C(9-0-4) Dst(4-1-0) Proven at the distance. Outside the dividends last time. A win would surprise. Outside the dividends last time. No kidding!! It ran 8th. No mention of the class drop from the NZ Cup though. 8. 75181 Madam De Soir (10) John Phillips Tina Comignaghi 54 (R69) C(12-3-2) Dst(12-2-0) Proven at the distance. Fresh up. Could surprise. Fresh Up...really ?? last raced on 11th November. 9. 68908 Nopele (6) Jo-Ann Gordon Gosen Jogoo 54 (R68) C(5-1-0) Dst(0) Will appreciate the drop in class. Out of the money last time. Looks held. Drop In Class? Going from an R74 to open class...class rise more like. Notorious barrier rogue but no mention of the barrier blanket on first time. 10. 89091 Beam Me Up Scotty (4) Anthony Burton Kin Kwo (2) 54 (R67) C(11-3-4) Dst(6-0-2) Close up at a big price last time. Place claims. So close up he won...big price?? try $12.60 11. 78008 Francis Drake (1) Maurice Forde Sanu Toolooa (3) 54 (R55) C(6-0-0) Dst(8-0-0) Unable to place last time. Roughie. Unable to place last time...actually unable to place in his last 26 starts! Just to reiterate this was in one race but it needs change because people depend on clear and accurate information. dock leaf and Baz (NZ) 1
mikenz 1,071 Report post Posted December 12, 2020 Nopele looks held, that's why it won and played $29 on the tote, obviously written by a person with a lot of deep intellectual knowledge of racing, having said that we all think we know it all,but why ain't we all millionaire? mikenz 1,071 Report post Posted December 12, 2020 At least they are right on with some of the harness racing, getting those dollar 80 shots right most times.

We're Doomed 4,824 Report post Posted December 12, 2020 I did notice the Southland form lines myself and was going to comment but couldn't be bothered. They were disgraceful. Obviously done by a total amateur. They were so bad that surely the person who did them must have a boss who must have noticed. It would be laughable if you didn't stop for a moment and reflect that this is a multi million dollar industry and many people rely on it for their livelihood. The level of incompetence that is tolerated within the industry is quite staggering. We're Doomed 4,824 Report post Posted December 12, 2020 Incidentally, that Nopele looked like the winner a long way out, quite impressive really.
Mr Spyro 408 Report post Posted December 12, 2020 Years ago remember a horse winning the Great Nothern Hurdles paying about $ 4. Comment was " Will be struggling here " Can be forgiven for rubbishing a $ 80 shot but a favourite ? You'd be lookin' for nearest t hole to hide in. Eastwood Jaunty 148 Report post Posted December 12, 2020 I am pretty certain the Southland ones this week were computer generated. So if the horse had run 4th last start the machine spat out "Behind the placegetters last time" and if it hadnt race in 30 days the machine spat out "Resuming", and so on. A lot of them were internally inconsistent along the lines of "Nice effort last start. Looks held" which is not the work of a human being (one surely hopes...). dock leaf

The comments were totally inconsistent: things like "good effort last time, no chance here". Isn't it pathetic; too bloody tight to pay someone with racing knowledge to do a couple of hours work so they get a kid who has never been to the races to whip up a quick, cheap, computer programme. The industry has fallen a long way, and it isn't going to come back at this rate. I do think it reflects very badly on leadership. It would be interesting to know who's decision it was: probably someone who got the boot from running Auckland port and couldn't get a job anywhere else. dock leaf and Tauhei Notts
We're Doomed 4,824 Report post Posted December 16, 2020 It sounds like the tea-boy or the cheap computer has been given the sack down south after last week's effort and an actual person, or a much better computer, has done Tapanui this weekend. They have moved the Shark over from selecting to " comments man " , both as erratic as the other . Baz (NZ)

mikenz 1,071 Report post Posted December 17, 2020 They could be very inventive saying things like Will win if it can get it's nose in front. A good bet if it's faster than the others Might be a risky bet if breaks up and loses all chance A chance if the rider dont fall off Might win as long as it goes the right way around Could win, especially if it can get to the barrier the same time as the others Its chances will improve if it dont accidentally hop the fence and head off down the street If the jockey dont bail out and jump off before the straight then its chances will be enhanced Has a good chance as long as it's not brought down in a major smash Racing fresh so if it goes well after a break might pay a divvy If it finishes first then a win bet would be good Has a bad second row draw but if he dont get stuck 6 deep and 4 back on the rail might be a roughies chance Track is slushy so if he likes a wet track, worth a look. Baz (NZ) 1,719 Report post Posted December 20, 2020 At GORE today the comments man seems obsessed with runners who will or won't handle a wet and heavy track? It's a DEAD6.... FFS!
mikenz 1,071 Report post Posted December 20, 2020 Maybe he thinks it wet in Southland all the time,I could advise him,its not.
Sickopunter 403 Report post Posted December 22, 2020 Quality form was one of the cuts the tab made. Not high earning, do nothing suits and pen pushers, but genuine information for punters (which encouraged turnover) in many cases written by expert analysts at a small cost. Enough pressure and they’ll bring it back.
