Are you saying it was a bad ride , IMHO outside gate he dropped horse in without using too much energy, moved up at right time , took decision to give him clear air and really only came up short against a very tough quality mare ,most horses he would have breezed on by and he did breeze on by most that field all better drawn with lighter weights. Derby win was similar kind of ride , got back of midfield , bustled a bit before and on turn to get going then hit overdrive . Had room to switch and go inside at Epsom in straight so could keep momentum going . The French race was slow so he had to be on the lead. I still reckon if Bowman had hard ridden for a spot early he would have set AVD alight and be hard to turn off the gas once it's running hard .
