Avondale

Recommended Posts

Normally has a good sole of grass but precipitation forecast for the afternoon as you would expect from most Avondale meetings, groundhog being used and rail out 4m... are we going to see leaders win the majority of races?

First Rock in Race 7 looks overs $14/$3.70

Kinda obvious that level of scratchings due to wide barrier draws.

Several 1200m races and connections just not prepared to start at wider than about barrier 9.

Avondale usually serves up a nice surface , but there has been serious water restrictions in city recently.

And not much spring rain.

Once I commented that for some strange reason the galloping guys seem to scratch a lot of the time and got one or two comments that slagged me off,but the harness guys just turn up if you get a bad draw or whatever, its just part of it,it seems the gallops trainers in the south just race despite the conditions, maybe that's because they dont race as much,so just get on with it.

Is there as much pressure on the legs of a Harness horses compared to gallopers? Harness breed a lot tougher & sturdier as well aren't they, gallopers breed for speed etc

Certainly interesting. Almost 70 scratchings on a firm track and not a single ballot missed a start. In the SI it is rare for a ballot to get a start. Just look how many balloted and eliminated horses miss a start at Timaru this week. Timaru had enough horses to run 14 races but probably be lucky if they run 11. Rather bizarre that they have added an extra meeting at Otaki next week because of the number of noms for Woodville, and yet they are only running 8 races at Woodville. Hardly a capacity field at HB last week either.

When anyone mentions that it is hard to follow form in the SI just remember that they have much bigger fields and horses have to start whenever they get an opportunity. There is no better option a few days later where they are guaranteed a start. It all comes down to poor management really, and absolutely no sign that it has improved since lockdown.

And I think that the Southern area could handle a few extra meetings, when they get going there is usually a meeting at least once a fortnight, but after having 3 early meetings fortnightly they  now only get two meetings in 6 weeks, maybe the odd meeting on a Monday might be a good idea, moving forward as it dont impinge on any other meeting, just a thought.

Gee good sized fields for Washdyke, one wonders if the wogs in suits notice that when they decide to close the gates and race everything at Riccarton.

I'm just being a bit sarcastic, I bet they leave Timare just as it is.

Maybe Woodville only has 8 races cause apparently  there weren't enough Tie ups to go around at the last meeting, i.e. perhaps they are learning something.

They should have watered the track yesterday and it would never have got to a Good 2 , absolute disgrace !!

Close the arsehole down and line the left leaning officials up against a wall and shoot them with a ball of their own shit  !

The place is a dump.........

Maybe they are short of water.

The weather forecast was spot on from at least 5 days ago, as Tassie Eluded Auckland is under water restrictions, question is to what extent does this effect the Avondale decision ?

In gallops draw 9 is 9 out from the fence (obvious) while in harness it is (usually) 1 on second row likewise draw 13 is 13 out whereas harness is 5 on second line.   I know that all sounds obvious but shows why a wide draw in harness is not so crucial as gallops - of course a favourite which is given draw 1 is fortunate either code and  often unfortunate for the poor old bookies!

Love it or loathe it the Avondale course is surely vital to gallops in the north especially as they are averse to running trials/jump outs at Ellerslie.       Anyone in my opinion who thinks Avondale should be done away with/sold off cannot see further than their own pockets.      The Auckland Trotting Club will in the not too distant future see the folly of selling off land - once it's gone that's it, a oncer as far as making money is concerned.

They are not allowed to because of low water levels in Auckland. Elleslie is the same they cant water tracks
