McKenzie sweeps out some of the dead wood

I am pleased to let you know the process of review of TAB NZ's Executive Leadership structure is now complete and we have confirmed our new leadership team which comprises of Jessica Meech - GM Corporate & Governance Services and Sam Moncur - GM Finance along with with existing executive Glen Saville - GM Customer and Betting who will hold the role until later this year and experienced industry executive Edward Rennell as GM Broadcasting and Operations until April 2021.

The new structure will formally take effect on 7 September 2020.

Both Jessica and Sam have been with the TAB for several years, most recently as General Counsel and Acting GM Finance respectively and have long standing personal involvement and commitments within the racing industry.

The new team balances the need to maintain operational continuity and industry credibility with introducing new leadership. The Board is confident Glen, Edward, Jessica and Sam will help move TAB NZ to another level and focused on delivering world-class betting and entertainment services.

Having Glen and Edward on board provides us with critical stability heading into our busiest period and give us time to conduct a national and international search to permanently fill these important roles.

In the immediate term, the organisation is focused on financial sustainability and supporting staff as they respond to the challenges they and the business are facing as a result of the pandemic and economic uncertainty.

I would also like to recognise the departing executives Stephen Henry, Gary Woodham and Andy Kydd and thank them for leading the organisation as it has transitioned from the New Zealand Racing Board, through the Racing Industry Transition Agency and into TAB NZ.

The Board will resume its search for a permanent Chief Executive shortly which will then help inform the appointments of the Customer and Betting and Broadcasting and Operations roles. In the interim, I will be more involved in the day to day operational leadership needs of the business.

Yours sincerely
Dean McKenzie
Executive Chair

It took me a few sentences to realise that I was wrong in thinking that I was reading a 'Hallelujah'  e-mail from Destiny Church.

Maybe RITA should have copied Brian Tamaki's Church revenue structure to ensure the Industry's survival extends well into the future.

Dump the NZ TAB name and call it ' NZ Punters Church'. As a registered Church they pay no taxes and all punters pay 10% to the Church from their winnings. Followers throughout the Country have racetracks, casinos,Pokie bars and clubs where they can pray, play and pay.

The good part is there is not one but many Gambling Gods catering to most nationalities. The bad news is Tamaki's structure rewards the Leader and his cronies (that part he must have copied from somewhere, wonder where from?).

Sadly the weekly bible no longer exists but RaceForm for praying purposes is acceptable.

Pick one God or take a multi to pray to.

Do you think you deserve the attention of the gods? They may often punish those who are too greedy, but if you are deemed worthy then you can always hope they lend you some of their divine luck.

Here is a list of all gods of gambling:

  • Lakshmi – The Hindu goddess of wealth and prosperity
  • Hermes – The Greek god of gambling
  • Mercury – The Roman name for Hermes
  • Fortuna – The Roman goddess of fortune and gambling
  • Macuilxochitl – The Aztec god of gambling and games
  • Nohoilpi – The Navaho god of gambling
  • Nezha – The Chinese god of gambling and fortune
  • Thoth – The Egyptian god of gambling, magic and time

Although he is not a god, there is another heavenly figure associated with gambling and luck. Saint Cajetan is the patron saint of gamblers in the Catholic Church. Interestingly, he is also known as the patron saint of bankers, the unemployed, workers, gamers and Argentina.

Insider tip if your male take 'Lakshmi' solid a God and throws out more luck than  the others my Singapore mate below put me onto her:

“In the immediate term, the organisation is focused on financial sustainability and supporting staff as they respond to the challenges they and the business are facing as a result of the pandemic and economic uncertainty”.                                       ..as a result of the PANDEMIC and ECONOMIC UNCERTAINTY.                                I think the NZ TAB has been facing far more challenges, from way before Pandemic and economic uncertainty. The problem is, many think that the challenges have not been met. That’s a problem not unlike KODAK. Was the one and only and the best. Competition came along and Kodak stood and watched.

Excuse me for thinking otherwise, but wasn't it executive decisions that got the TAB into the crap in the first place?  Will be very interesting to see who is picked for the ceo position and fingers crossed its not john allen.

Its a certainty that JA will not be applying let alone getting the position as hes cranking up his Wellington Economic Development Job. I wonder if Woodham has approached him yet😉.

Get ready for another import as their is no one locally that i can think of with the required skill set to run the place. Top of the list should be someone who shows excellence and a total understanding of gambling for starters

Interestingly, Peter V’Landys has been in charge of the NRL for how long now? 6 months? Navigated his way thru Corvid-19 and “told” the State Govts when they would start the comp, and his latest is that he is going to cut “$100m” from Admin Costs with “no loss of services! “How good is that? Compare that to NZ Racing Administration....

No mention of Simon Mackay, the aussie IT guy who was on the team.

Dean leaving all the hard work to next CEO or simply waiting to outsource????????????

I would suggest the exact opposite Patti , hes the one that has restructured the whole operation including getting rid of 3 from the top table . and cutting operating costs by $20mio. Isn't that what everyone wanted when Glenda and John were shown the door. Cant have your cake and eat it too😃 Or are you one of racing's version of nimbys. everyone else take the pain but not me or my club or radio station

Thats good information Greg if accurate. The whole operation of TAB has to be thrown out into the open afterall they do not have competition in NZ. I am surprised there hasn't been more whistleblowers from ex employees.
