Disillusioned 389 Report post Posted August 3, 2020 DC9, I suspect not. Even before the statewide Lockdown came into effect, the Victoria Racing Club was downgrading its Carnival: https://www.foxsports.com.au/horse-racing/melbourne-cup-officials-revise-bestcase-scenario-crowd-to-60000-for-2020/news-story/7aa468642dbd9c08f62193a8c773885c

meomy 971 Report post Posted August 3, 2020 Why shouldn't it go ahead? Best way to stop the spread of whatever Coronavirus is is to ban all Imitation Tobacco products in society, including in pubic places. It's the prime reason people are suffering pneumonia type symptoms, coughs etc. Those who are running the show & calling the shots are very much the same ones who have failed in their Duty of Care to protect Public Health bc they failed to ensure that rubbish imitation tobacco was tested for side effects, that there's best before dates, use by dates & full disclosure of the ingredients in that crap. Ad to the mix, in places like Italy, Spain & USA those who were getting sick & dying were previously diagnosed as having EVALI where the use of those products are available & used. They should never have been permitted into any country under the guise of a health product - which incidentally is understood to be a different tax rate to tobacco. Join the dots folks. Speak up & get that rubbish banned. badger
Trump 2,741 Report post Posted August 3, 2020 The Melb Cup May we’ll proceed - withOut on course people. Given that the 4-day Carnival provides the VRC with its entire annual revenue, then on top of the cost of the recently completed new Members Stand facilities, you can only imagine the dire consequences facing the Club. The COVID situation in Victoria is a disaster in financial and Humanitarian proportions unimaginable. Don’t think it can’t or won’t jump across to NZ again soon. I've only seen that trick in Thailand. Memphis2 and hedley

Trump 2,741 Report post Posted August 4, 2020 It’s the little guys that are rooted in Melbourne. The Franchisee’s who borrowed big to get their businesses going. The small business owners etc. forget the Universities - they are loaded to the eyeballs with $$$$’s. One Uni has got about $2billion (yes $2B) in reserves! It’s the little Bloke that’s completely f####d - as per usual. Not sure about the Melb Cup but it doesn’t look like they will have too many spectators if it does go ahead. You have to feel for them. As for the wankers who leave their quarantine? Throw all infected quarantine leavers into an enclosed compound (Manus Island sounds good!) and leave them all there until they recover or die. No mercy. napier and ADM
meomy 971 Report post Posted August 4, 2020 They may well also be subjected to a Judicial Review by a smart thinking writer of legislation like we have had in New Zealand - look up Andrew Borrowdale JR online as there's much to learn from tucked in various files, including this one Case Testing the legal basis for New Zealand's Covid19 Response is Heard https://www.lawsociety.org.nz/news-and-communications/latest-news/news/case-testing-the-legal-basis-for-new-zealands-covid-19-response-is-heard Submission Papers are within the links in the Law Society's article on it, note the great references to history with the help of our National Archives, Papers Past! They also reference to earlier closures of Racetracks in previous epidemics/ infectious disease outbreaks. We all must be mindful in days gone by people didn't have the means to travel to hospitals that were few and far between and Doctors did Home visits.... it's all relative.
