This behaviour is one of the reasons on course attendances are poor , along with extravagant prices . Clubs work to get people on course ... and then when they get them there they pull these sort of stunts. Happens all the time. Totes close so you cant get a bet on. They turn the TVs off showing aussies racing . And close the bars. tonkatime 323 Report post Posted July 24, 2020 Is it to do with there licence? I know at the stadium in Wellington the bars often close not to far into the second half and I gather it’s something to do with there licence. I could be wrong about that. Womby 51 Report post Posted July 24, 2020 I used to enjoy cup week until beer was nearly ten bucks and because the place was full of kids just out of school I had to queue for ages and get one drink while my mate holds the table. Cannot be bothered going there now. Unbelievable how on a race track just as the better oz races are starting and you are in the mood for socialising and punting after our muddy track racing they want you gone, although they do have to bus those old tote operators back to the home before dark and dinner! chelseacol and We're Doomed
arjay 447 Report post Posted July 24, 2020 Has it got something to do with staff hours paid? Staff paid until say 30 mins after last race and they have to get equipment and stock cleared away?
Womby 51 Report post Posted July 24, 2020 Perhaps arjay but times are hard and when you have a crowd and don't make the most of your opportunity why bother. Different if a few half drunk people want to just hang in drinking and not punting

At the stadium it will be because there are thousands of excitable types getting on the booze. Puha and the Wanganui gallops somehow doesn't elicit that same image. TurnyTom 1,519 Report post Posted July 24, 2020 As Chelseacol points out it happens on a number of fronts and has done for years, the turning off the Aussie racing and departure of tote operators gets me and it is pretty much the norm hence I only attend on major days when they play the game. Incredible that the industry is fucked yet they do naf all to keep us with a superb experience, very bloody sad nomates
