rdytdy 5,335 Report post Posted July 22, 2020 Counties Meeting Now at Avondale Due to further significant rain at Pukekohe Park over the last 24 hours, and the impact this has had on the track, this Saturday’s Counties meeting has been transferred to Avondale. Distances and times remain the same. The rail will be moved out (distance tbc) after racing there on Wednesday.

nomates 3,453 Report post Posted July 23, 2020 Perhaps , sell Pukekohe and up grade Avondale . It seems to me that maybe the one track they can't afford to lose in Auckland is Avondale . We're Doomed 4,824 Report post Posted July 23, 2020 Perhaps some trainers had already voted with their feet. The field sizes had fallen away quite a bit compared with what we have been seeing. Horses can only take so many races in the bog. nomates

nomates 3,453 Report post Posted July 23, 2020 Just now, weasel57 said: that'd be silly. Merge Avondale and Ellerslie assets to form an entirely new, asset-rich and cash-rich entity. Well it seems to me Avondale is the one Auckland track that has no issue racing in the winter , Ellerslie too good to and Counties can't really handle any significant rain or too many meetings . An asset rich and cash rich entity is only any good if they want race in the winter , or maybe dip into those cash rich funds and build a top of the line Strathyar at Ellerslie . ARC is wealthy enough now to do , as NZ's premier club why aren't they . We're Doomed and Insider 1

ARC is wealthy enough now to do , as NZ's premier club why aren't they . Why with all the money spent on Counties it's not preforming with all the new drainage. Because we are still adamant at using the old style soil racecourse and not future proof with the likes of a strathyar that can race on every week. You can only spend money once nomates and Baz (NZ) 1

tasman man 11 979 Report post Posted July 23, 2020 A sensible 'band aid' solution.Shows some maybe new found collaboration and common sense . But don't see this as an indicator as to the future. Avondale still a run down facility , few people want to go there , and the weather often worse than other micro-climates of the city. Horse population getting further away all the time ! soliloquy

So, TM were you there on Wednesday? I was. Weather was beyond shyte but not their fault, crowd larger than I have seen at Te Rapa recently ,excellent (as usual) winter racing surface, very acceptable fields. As for the facility, it will only get a makeover to a reduced capacity stand etc if the Club has some fixture certainty with acceptable stakes.(Plus a governance shake-up of course)) Notwithstanding any of these factors the MOST important is a suitable racing surface that gives punters security and horses safety. 100 1, Mr Spyro, Insider and 4 others 4
