Dissident 155 Report post Posted July 17, 2020 Used to be dished out to certain people on the racing desk (tab) and they could vary week to week, sometimes split between 2 or 3 ppl. There are rules/guidelines but if the usual person wasn't available then there was often a notable difference to the wording. Eating mud is indeed a bit different! I will dig some out one day and put some up, very clever and cutting remarks some of them . Every horse that went round between the flags the year before got a write up and there are some seriously slow, wayward and dangerous ones . Brokendown 2 Report post Posted July 17, 2020 The lower South Island Gallop pre race comments were previously done by one contractor but i believe are now done by either the commentator or if he is too busy, anyone within the TAB that is available

When done well it can be like a work of art, that the commenters take great pride in. Conversely they become lacklustre pretty quickly when someone with no passion for the sport does them because they have to. We're Doomed 4,855 Report post Posted July 17, 2020 The worst comments are for the Aussie races where they seem to steal comments from two different sources and use them both. This one from Ipswich today is typical. Not flash in 7L 12th Jun 27. Average effort at Doomben last outing. Both of those refer to the same start, obviously from different sources. Here's one i found online with some background I've done on her , my copies of this huge book are in loft so I will need to waste in sauna to get through hole but I will use it as a goal at the gym to fit through and get the books out . Risk Me was a decent runner for David Sullivan , porn baron , wide boy and West Ham owner , put to stud he produced a horse from a mare called School dinners . The 1995 chestnut filly produced was called Gay Abandon , she ran 17 lengths behind high class Muhtahir at Sandown on debut but that was closest she ever got to winner . Over hurdles , fences and between flags she ran 17 races and completed nil times . PU, UR, RO, F she got the lot in formline .Her under rules rating was 39 , that's low for flat let alone a jump rating . Bizarrely they bred from her , Gay Millennium was even slower . MacKenzie and Selby view on her . 2003 = Looks awful, disgracefully bad 2004 = Gay Abandon looks awful and unschooled and the authorities should take action to prevent a disaster from occurring. There's plenty goodies in 500 pages each year . Dissident

Stays 1m 4f maximum and is completely useless, finally got round at 20th attempt ( but only after refusing ) and the rider could not have gained more pleasure from a multiple orgasm Ballysheil Star = Completed course six times in a row , but the equivalent of a bungee jump without a rope . Yes, thats a worryingly basic error isn't it. Shouldn't be doing them if they don't understand what they are reading.
winx21 70 Report post Posted July 18, 2020 I recall several years ago whoever did the south island comments were brillaint, really funny but accurate. some of the tab comments today are so bad and uninformative for example. ran 3rd first up 4 th last time. do they think we are that thick we don't know what 34 in the form means?! Mr Spyro 408 Report post Posted July 18, 2020 One I remember from so long ago, back when Uncle Remus had a couple of starts as a two year old and had run unplaced. Resuming as a three year old the comment in the form guide was " The future looks all black for this fella " Would take a brave man to write something like that these days. Red Rum 1,833 Report post Posted August 6, 2020 Billy Egan''s ride for Payne in race 3 comments state" Rank Outsider " . How was that horse ever going to be rank outsider in that field , it's at 5s at moment . There's two multi raced maidens from Stanaway yard in race , Takahe is rank outsider every time he races . LightsOut 486 Report post Posted August 7, 2020 Quote Blow job didn't sort him out , was 17th of 20 beaten 21 lengths in this race at Galway. 12 more starts after that run with 3rd the best finish. Obviously couldn't last the distance and lost interest in racing after that noted indescretion on the racetrack.

nomates 3,556 Report post Posted August 20, 2020 Just checking out the form for Gore tomorrow and picked this one up , someone's not checking horses history before commenting . Flying Sardine is running tomorrow , comments says , " not seen since 3rd in Winter cup last season , likely to need the run " , words to that effect . Anyway she has had 16 runs in Victoria since the Winter Cup the last 5 weeks ago , i'd suggest she will be well forward . Might be worth a sneaky bet now .
