Peter Jenkins 2,120 Report post Posted January 23, 2010 Group A The 2 points earned by the Stags today confirmed their finals berth while the Butchers, who got an 8 point return from playing their Joker today, need just one point from their final match next week to ensure they can't be shut out for the finals. The Makos defeat saw them relinquish 2nd spot to the Butcher Boys today but they still have 2 points to spare over the chasing Turbos who put themselves back in the hunt with their impressive match win this afternoon. The Swamp Foxes are still at the foot of the table but at least have levelled on points with the Possums who drew a blank today. Unfortunately both these sides have played their Joker which means the maximum points they can take from the last round is 5 which won't be enough to make the Finals. Well played people and I hope you show up next week to prove a point or two for the Final Round Robin encounter. So the Butcher Boys, Makos and Turbos will fight over the two remaining Finals berths next week. 28 Stags 9683.60 -----qualified for Finals above this----- 21 Butcher Boys* 8416.00 18 Makos* 8259.50 16 Turbos* 8158.30 ----can't qualify for Finals below this--- 10 Possums* 7916.00 10 Swamp Foxes* 7041.00 * = joker played Group B The Hurricanes win today guaranteed them a Finals spot while the Ferdies played their Joker to good effect and the 8 points they landed has also ensured them a place in the playoff Finals moving up from 4th to 2nd today. The Bush Pigs and Magpies slid back a place today after finishing last in their matches and now have the Highlanders right on their hammer with the Kats who swiped two precious points off the last race today, also still within striking distance of a finals spot. The Final Round next week will be an almighty showdown with 4 sides - the Bush Pigs, Highlanders, Magpies and Kauri Kats slugging it out to claim the last Finals berth up for grabs ! 27 Hurricanes 8806.40 22 Ferdies* 9337.80 -----qualified for Finals above this----- 17 Bush Pigs* 8911.60 16 Magpies* 10209.50 16 Highlanders* 8039.50 13 Kauri Kats* 8152.20 * = joker played Let me know if I have made a mistake. ziggy09 384 Report post Posted January 23, 2010 Well done lads we are through :y: We can relax and enjoy next week playing our joker. I believe there is no real advantage finishing 1 or 2 i.e. McIntyre 6 allows 1st and 2nd qualifiers a life if they lose in week 1 of the semi's (correct PJ?} John maybe we can skip training this week as a reward? Ziggy, in a normal league situation like say the A-league you are quite correct however beacuse we are drawing on Finalists from two separate leagues only the winning sides from each league will play in the Qualifying Final in Rnd 1 of the Finals. The teams ranked 3rd to 6th (2nd & 3rd placegetters in Groups A & take part in the 1st and 2nd Elimination Finals in Rnd 1 of the Finals. So in this instance there is a big advantage to winning the round-robin Group.

Pegs Pride 376 Report post Posted January 23, 2010 Just got in from a relee's wedding! What a relief Ferdies. Well played team. Happy I could step up with you this week. I needed to. (Day at Trentham brought back happy memories of 10 years ago when Modem won at this meeting with Chris Munce on board. Only jock who could get him out of the gates. What a heartache he was. But he won plenty for Pete and me that day (got the quinella too!) I truly liked Vonusti today but made him sub in preference to Wall Street. Ah well. On to the Cup. Styxmyfavourite 0 Report post Posted January 23, 2010 Looks like 'Stags Stew' on the Turbos menu this coming Saturday, as the Turbos continue with their 'Vonusti-like' run to the play-offs from ...well....back beyond mid-field to be honest ! Rumours are that the Stags hoof-steps are starting to go up-and-down on the one spot...as the business end approaches. Couldn't possibly comment on that, but they should be able to fall across the line into the play-offs, with any sort of luck on their side. Oh....they're in the playoffs already....congrats, Stags..I'd overlooked that. Well done. Never doubted you for a minute ! Styx.
