ain't That th'truth

..and none moreso..than the global warming deniers army machine:rolleyes would be more appropriate to Murray's example. It cited the minority of exceptions to the majority stats that we have to create alarmist fear about home security personal safety etc.

Deniers take a few exceptions and aberrations to the majority of findings and and use them to spread alarmist fears of some great global conspiracy on climate change. No one has yet quite explained what is to be gained by such a conspiracy but we should all be aware by now of the consequences if there is no such conspiracy and the stats and research findings are right.Preparing for a hurricane and then finding it passed by without affecting you doesn't make you worse off. However assuming it won't hit and doing nothing and then it does hit.... well I don't think I need to elaborate further on that.

Also melting ice is not claimed to be the cause or sole cause of global warming or sea level rise but a symptom of it. Bit like as you lie on the beach turning red it's a symptom of you forgetting to put your sunhat and sunscreen on or else a symptom you forgot your bathing suit and got horribly embarrassed.

Some answers from Prof Jones for you to ponder on Phil.

http://blogs.news.com.au/heraldsun/andrewbolt/index.php/heraldsun/comments/not_unusual_not_the_hottest_not_still_warming/

Note the answer to the question about cooling in recent years -- saying that it was too short a time frame to consider but in the same interview he sites the recently announced data that apparently Jan 2010 has been the warmest on record !! This is why many people are not believing these guys guys. They continue to twist any they can to justify their stance.

If Andrew Bolt was a journalist with a record for good and fair reporting one might be able to take this link seriously. However his cherry picked and severely edited version of the BBC interview with Prof Jones is designed to come to a pre-designed conclusion.

He also published an article attacking former intelligence officer Andrew Wilkie trying to discredit him because Wilkie had challenged the fallacy of the Howard govt's (& Bush administration's) excuse of WMD for the invasion of Iraq and challenged the intelligence gathering as dishonest & flawed stating the reports which claimed to support WMD etc did not and he gave evidence before the U.K and Australian enquiries into the Iraq war. It was later shown that Bolt was dubiously assisted in his attacks on Wilkie by sources inside the intelligence service with dubious and partisan leaked documents and information which prompted a police inquiry but as with all such inquiries they established wrong doing but could not name the perpertrator.

Bolt was also successfully sued by a judge for $246,000 defamation after some unsubstantiated claims in an article abut her. On appeal the court awarded a further $25,000 punitive damages and he was further criticised for further unsubstantiated false claims he made.

He has also attacked the concept of the "stolen generation" controversy claiming there never was such racism in Australia and such actions against aboriginals were for their own good and protection, again using some pretty dubious information and arguments.

So before taking a journalist's story at face value, it sometimes pays to look at their track record and the past quality of their investigative writing and record of fairness and dealing with facts.

There still is no evidence of any worldwide conspiracy, nefariously funded climate research, manipulation, no admission that global warming is a hoax, no evidence of the falsifying of data, and no evidence of the involvement of so called socialist/communist/green etc overlords masterminding the alleged hoax so often claimed by many opponents of the research findings.

The emails simply showed that scientists interact like the rest of us, don't always say nice things about each other privately but then Einstein and Newton didn't have to be nice guys for their findings and theories to be accepted.

The emails just highlight the conflicts in the scientific community - nothing new and attempts to use them to discredit the research requires the emails to be taken out of context which can be done with any post on this forum to produce whatever conclusion the author wants to produce.

Articles and columns written by Bolt should be taken with a healthy dose of scepticism and caution (more than one would normally require for most works) given his track record to date, unless of course you subscribe to the general conspiracy theory of many of the climate deniers in which case you'll probably see him as a victim of the same conspiracy.

The reason why some people are "not believing these guys" as you claim is that they only get offered up headlines and single byte stories or partisanly edited & distorted columns such as Bolt's. A sensational controversy involving allegations of conspiracy and coverups is better for selling papers, radio and TV channels than a sober appraisal of the situation. The media has again let us down in coverage of this issue as with many others.

I have no problem with bias in a journalist, we all have that so why should a journo be any different? It is fairness and integrity that is required and Bolt by his selective & distorted use of information and sources undermines that.

Phil --I only linked to Bolts' site because it conveniently had the relevant questions I was referring to. I don't really care what you think of Bolt --that is not the issue. His thread links to the full BBC interview quite openly so anyone who wants to read the full interview is free to do so.

Weather extremes playing havoc across the globe

By Neale Donnelley TVN Wednesday, January 29, 2014 - 7:37 AM

While the Australian eastern seaboard is battling heat-wave conditions, bushfires and hard race-tracks, it’s the opposite in the UK.

In fact, widespread rain across England and Ireland has wiped out every race meeting in either country except one - tonight’s night meeting at Kempton.

Meetings at Leicester, Newcastle and Ludlow have been abandoned in the UK.

And the forecast for the next few days is similar, with tracks scheduled to host meetings either water-logged or close to it.

Another who plays the man not the ball.Bolt is clear concise and backs his points with common sense which these days isnt so common, to undermine his points based on past track record is meaningless, if you play that card you can look to ground floor alarmist bullshitters Gore and Micheal Mann who should of been locked up in Penn State 😆Obamas re tweeted 97 % of Scientists agree in Man made global warming ,spreading propaganda based on more Bullshit coming from well funded Universities and in this instance an Australian wannabe, the bullshit coming from the Alarmists is undeniable ... banks are still funding huge financial projects near sea level and the freaked out are still pointing to specific areas of the World crying 'the sea is rising' 🤣  You want to live in areas prone to erosion , excess rain complications and other 'common sense  factors you lack foresight but are quick to make assesments on causation...'Carbon dioxide and Methane ... get real
