Idolmite 2,529 Report post Posted May 14, 2020 Unbelievable. Can't even have "final meeting ever" at your local. Just issue no licences. Local trainers? Move over, we're coming through So who, for example, actually owns the land the Avondale racecourse sits on? How can that be sold off and the money go to the general racing industry? tripple alliance 1,025 Report post Posted May 14, 2020 Brilliant , long over due , let's do this . Racing has been in poor form for far to long , clubs sitting on millions of dollars worth of assets and achieving nothing must change . Avondale is the biggest joke of all time , $200 million and $10,000 races , just imagine what they could have by investing $20 million at Ellerslie , upgrade 3 levels on the stand , install an all weather track and still have change . Just do it . elvis and Baz (NZ) 1
nomates 3,555 Report post Posted May 14, 2020 Centralization on it's way , more tracks closed over next 5-10 yrs . But it wont matter the number of participants is going to go thru the floor . If big name trainers keep stables in NZ they will merely be nursery and pre training stables where anything with ability moves to Australian barn . I really feel for a lot of smaller operators and the hobbyist , things are about to get really tough especially if stakes are going to be as bad as mentioned . dock leaf, Insider, JJ Flash and 3 others

nomates 3,555 Report post Posted May 14, 2020 I wonder when they release the dates if the put out stakes for those meetings . My bet is no , they would be scared a lot of participants would pull pin straight away knowing how tough it could get .

Houlahan's Dream 535 Report post Posted May 14, 2020 I imagine Avondale will dig their heels in, arguing that the land belongs to the AJC and cannot be sold. But if they have no race dates could it exist as a training venue and home of the best fruit and veg market in West Auckland? dock leaf 142 Report post Posted May 14, 2020 If the closure of each of 15 tracks on tomorrows list doesn't provide a significant economic efficiency then the decision makers are fked. If they do not keep the best racing surfaces that also have the best track sizes - that would increase off-course betting then they are totally fked. Because on-course betting is obviously not a priority either. Plan B? After the over 60's and their flip phones stop betting, and betting continues to decline - it will probably be time to sell another dozen tracks? As much as I love "historical" Avondale and the great Avondale Cup evenings, reality has to set in some time and rationalisation has to be the way to preserve our fragile future--but with the caveat that the thieving suits are gone and far away from the funds! Its been a sunset industry for 10 yrs or more so all as this has done is accelerated the demise. JJ Flash

These are RACING CLUBS , they exist for the purpose of racing , only personal sour grapes will see them abandon racing . I hope the club on the coast that handed over it's asset to the council is left high and dry and gets nothing , they will be the losers , their local council must still be pissing themselves laughing . As a final thought , I would suggest banning any horse trained at any of these closed tracks be banned from racing on an approved track , that should do it .
