I thought owners / trainers were screaming out for bigger stakes? One way of stopping the exodus across the Tasman ?
Chris Wood 1,576 Report post Posted May 11, 2020 I think you will find Avondale might be locked in a trust or something similar and NZ racing won’t get their hands on a dollar, which is fair enough too.... We can never have stakes big enough to stop the exodus and that's fine , start getting stakes good enough to keep present owners and attract new ones . The dream is getting good enough to take to Aussie . Huey and Aaron Bidlake

Tauhei Notts 1,411 Report post Posted May 11, 2020 I saw the costings, several years ago. It worked out that every time a race field goes over the Hill at Ellerslie the opportunity cost to the Club is in the vicinity of $120,000. So, that is $360,000 for the Great Northern and $240,000 each for the McGregor Grant Steeples and Pakuranga Hunt Cup. Even so, I would be so sad to see the Great Northern Steeplechase abandoned. It is the greatest steeplechase in the World!!! meomy
