seem devoid of any enlightened leadership.

That in a nut shell is what our racing future hinges on . In 6 months i think we will see everything back as it was , calendar , stakes , RIU , senior management , pretty much same old , same old . In 12/18 months any of 6 or 8 name trainers relocated to Aus .

Sadly.....and, when the same thing happens again, back to the Govt with the hand out again.  Wouldn't be holding my breath for a positive response from that.

Indeed, it seemed a valid thought, Close Te Rapa, move out of the city, make people drive to the course rather than float horses. All weather tracks for racing and training, just huge a facility. Harness as well possibly. CJC and Addington could move South, West, or North of the city likewise.  thoughts?

Of course, this green fields Waikato idea should happen. Travelling distances to anywhere in the Waikato from Waikato central are less than 60 minutes. Too much parochialism ahead of a long term visionary approach.

Is it time to make the people come to the horses rather than taking the horses to the people. We transport horses a lot at high cost around the country, however we cannot lose feature race meets such as Ellerslie and Trentham. The big days are big for sure, but others just meander along. The public just are not interested, Jackpots on course only could assist.

Hi Greg

This unfortunately is not that easy of fix for NZTR, requires a lot of groups working together.

Like the three codes working together, which might lend weight to keeping the best dual code venues, and even the tri-code gem in Invercargill...... What is the future for Forbury?

The mechanism for fixing long term should be in the next tranche of legislation but the way RITA has managed the TAB so far I think all bets are off.

In a much worse position now than 18 months ago.

Even taking COVID 19 into account.

Or , something that's been missing from that organisation for quite some time. LEADERSHIP. which means taking hard decisions that should have been made years ago. C'mon MIA and Bernie , show us  some real Leadership, just once

Hard to know who’s responsibility this is, is it NZTA or RITA? It was in the Mesara Report that was given to RITA to implement.

Clubs need to play their part too

I have been saying for many years move Addington to Riccarton and move the Casino to Riccarton and make Riccarton the punters venue, but hard moving the Casino now with the National stand gone.

Now that's not a bad idea :rcfe-like:

Probably as it makes too much sense for it to happen

It makes no sense, for a start you’d lose all the training tracks at Riccarton so do you relocate all the Riccarton trainers. Secondly trotting tracks inside galloping tracks are poor viewing except for Moonee Valley where the stands are right on the galloping track.

Exactly.   The experience of walking out of the Spectators bar to the rail where you can nearly touch the horses, they are so close,  could not be replicated.     Assuming the enormous amount of money could be found [ and justified ]  to shift ambulance track, plough, gallop grasses and sand,  the trotting track would be 2000m and so bloody far away that no one would bother going.

And where, then, do the above-mentioned training tracks go?   Not a great idea.

The concept of a purpose-built facility somewhere else,  yes, fine.  No problem with that at all.   But to maximise the viewing experience, training tracks would need [IMO]  to be located in another area of the complex.

Apologies, mine was a tongue and cheek response but you and few likers obviously did not get it:rcfe-happy-2:

I wasn't going to comment again, but I seem to have started all of this by referring to Waikouaiti.  The messara  report suggested closing Timaru and keeping Waikouaiti. I was trying to be humorous. Most people seemed to get the reference, but not everyone has the same sense of humour.

Sadly, I did suggest that mentioning the W track would get a response.

i found the close oamaru and washdyke and keep waikouaiti rather amusing, no disrepect to waikouaiti but the trot club left to race at oamaru because the track can be a wet bog at times, but what it emphasised was people like mesara  had no knowledge of our place in anyway so decisions he makes have no impact at all on themselves, personally i think waikouaiti should move off new years day, give the day to another club in central perhaps or maybe southland, hardly any horses race from southland at waikouaiti anyhow, shift their day perhaps, even omakau get a crap day now, all these ideas and changes but not many for the better.
