Draft dates calendar summary

Recommended Posts

I have seen the so called draft but it's only the dates of where the races will be run, the number of races(8) and and the start time (12.00) Where are the types of races, distances, rating, stakes. How can anybody plan without all the info.  They are talking 114 Greyhound Meetings and 13 thoroughbred Meeting before July 31st

Fair question.........one can assume in the interim an inventory of all ready to run horses will be gathered and from that the programs decided. The urgency to get started ASAP would be linked to keeping participants still involved and not have them going elsewhere....particularly punters and owners.

It is urgent that the TAB get betting cranked up again.

MPitman said on here recently he would have horses ready to race at any time over any distance , and he included a couple other sizable trainers as having similar situations.

This 'can do' attitude is indeed encouraging and much needed at these unprecedented times.

In the North it was obvious that the biggest stables were having to turn ALL their horses out......the numbers would be significant.....once Cambridge and Matamata training tracks closed.

Harness probably has more private training tracks where horses could be ticked over and exercised within the rules/bubbles !

Both codes should be updating the inventory of ready to run horses as race date gets closer.

3rd of July that's about 10 weeks away .

The trainers who kept horses quietly ticking over will be regretting doing that and it's still no public at the meetings , It will be interesting to see how many owners keep going . It pisses me off when you see Australian racing still operating , our government knows best or so they think but the Ausses are proving it can be done .

That's a great idea..... Contact trainers big and small and get a guage on what numbers are in work, then ascess what rating band and distances needed to accommodate the horse population that are ready to race come opening day.

Don't go talking common sense on here. You will change the whole tone of the place.

This has apparently being done, 20% of horses have been kept in some form of work.

Isn't it funny how many have been advocating this for years and its taken a pandemic to achieve , why?

I'm no trainer, so a race fit horse that got turned out into a paddock a month ago, needs how many months training to be ready to race again?

Part of the issue is also the changing of the seasons racing is back in the winter racing period most horses up and fit were late summer/Autumn types .

Just had a look at Gavel house , 132 lots , plenty of broodmares and quite a few of the racing stock the owners mention reducing numbers , not carrying on .

The rule of thumb is one for one e.g. one month break will mean one month training required.

And then we're moving into the area of wet tracks and abandonment from July. Could be a very thin calendar in the end but I guess things have to start somewhere- if in fact they actually do.

I have only had a quick look but certainly some dramatic changes. The Marton Metric Mile is held at New Plymouth over 1,400m. They might have to change the name of the race. Bit of a cheek, not only taking the 2,000 Guineas away from Riccarton but then holding it on exactly the same day in competition with Riccarton. Talk about rub it in their nose. Good to see the fillies and mares race move to the first day of Cup Week, I have always thought that was the way to go. And the Stewards to the last day. Certainly dumbing down the middle day.

I notice elsewhere a single galloping day in Invercargill in the middle of July; wonder how that will go?

I reckon you could get to the races in 2 months if the horse has had a month off and was up racing or galloping at the time. BUT the horse that had the month off was probably a firm tack horse, and the horse you would want to be running in July would be a wet tracker! That is assuming the horse was going to run over 1200m

Guineas on same day up north , Like finding a partner having an affair with a mate then the two of them invite you to watch the wedding via Skype on same day as your birthday party .

Be highly unlikely Southland will race a one off, not even sure if the trots will race in invers in july either, never been done before.

Not really RR. No different from the customary last week of October with Auckland (Sth Auck Cup, Soliloquy Stakes), Wellington Premier meeting and Riccarton (Pearl series race and  listed Casino Spring Classic) all on the same day.
