It’s impossible to believe that there are 92 people involved in the RIU!

A better perspective.

A total of 34 staff members are employed by the RIU in offices in Auckland (head office) and Christchurch, as well as regionally throughout New Zealand. In addition, the RIU also employs approximately 85 casual swabbing officials and race day typists.

Check this out  RACIING INTEGRITY UNIT LTD,  92 EMPLOYEES TOTAL SUBSIDY PAID. $476,947.20

Never been more shocked or surprised at anything on Racecafe. This is just beyond crazy.  Honestly believed about 8 or 10 employed.

Even more crazy that the current participants allow this to happen. Government should not be subsidizing these kinds of businesses.

I never been more shocked or surprised that you SD unaware of these numbers which are highly visible on RIU website.

Around 2010 research showed that lack or trust or integrity was a HUGE handbrake or negative in New Zealand racing.

Integrity became a top priority...... ....ie policing the Industry.

Hence it has grown into what it is today.

Funded by pokies used by pathologically addicted folk who can’t feed or clothe their kids.......lots of integrity right there Tassie

If the Governments aren't going to ban Pokies in this country completely...then they should make them illegal to be housed outside Casino's and Racing Clubs.

Licence Casino's & Racing Clubs only!

A necessary evil that continues.... would certainly help subsidise racing only.

Big in US the racinos , kept racing going a bit there .To me if you need people plugged into a pokie machine to sustain  animals running around a track it kind of gives the impression racing is nearer the end than beginning in society sadly in those countries .

Unfortunately Baz, called into a Chartered Club in Mt Maunganui about 20 years ago with my Dad, pretty quiet , Manager said without pokies they would be bust.

Involved in a Tavern 7 or 8 years ago , sadly without the cut from the 12 gaming machines , doors would have been closed a long time ago.

I used to empty the money out of the machines and shake my head , all of this money used to go to Racing , these people would never entertain the thought of betting with the TAB .

Plenty have them Huey...Auckland TC have had them for years.

and there is a reason for that, they are open 7 days a week, location perfect etc. how many other racing clubs could you involve. You need scale for these things to work and you also need plenty of other things to get punters in the door to use them.
