napier 339 Report post Posted April 9, 2020 Why has it taken 15 days to finally sort out boarder controls ?.....Its been an absolute joke... Borders should have been shut from day one but no Cindy (or her advisors) were scared about the racist card being thrown at them. weasel57 429 Report post Posted April 9, 2020 I'd suggest that they couldnt do it straight away because: too many people were returning in the first few days after bborder restrictions were announced they didnt have the testing kits, PPE, tracing procedures or accommodation for so many people so soon it's 'all good' now cos they've bought enough time to establish these things - and the trickle of citizens returning for mandatory quarantine will be manageable. The cost to us all is enormous, of course - they say $3.5 billion per week of lockdown - and the mid-long term cost impossible to gauge but devastating. Give the low mortality rate of Covid, at 2% with emphasis on very old people with underlying chronic health issues, is the cost worth the lives saved? The best country in the world for testing says peple with the virus can show mixed positive ,negative tests throughout ‘recovery ‘and after recovering the virus can be reactivated anyway....its here to stay like the thousands of others that we co-exist with . What’s Border Control got to do with it? Many businesses could be open in a controlled environment , it's not only racing that's continuing in Ausse , just watched a fish market in full swing , the Ausses are operating in a freer way than us , trying to avoid complete economic collapse . We are facing a situation that has similarity's to the climate scam , profits of doom every where and a long list of failed forecasts . The USA have downgraded the predicted death rate of 200,000 down to 60,000 , we have suffered our 2nd fatality (95yo) , a figure that must have plenty wondering about initial predictions and what's even more remarkable is we have just properly sealed our boarders . I can see greta thunburg accusing the older generation of stealing young peoples futures by not taking extreme measures on climate , well the amount of debt being created by this shut down strategy will place huge debt on future generations , the complete shutdowns are having the same effect as extreme climate action would have . I support the shutdown but if you get into a war an exit strategy is essential , we don't have one . We are not New York , London , we are not packed in like sardines , New York has 10,000 people per sq km , London 5600 per sq m and Auckland has only 1200 per sq m . If their was political will many businesses could open tomorrow under the same rules that dairy's operate under and racing could easily return at very short notice . Investigation underway into Mycoplasma bovis infection on South Canterbury farm – 25 July 2017 , $100 million later and here we are National beef survey next step in ensuring M. bovis eradication . Still surveying nearly three years later and still trying to track down and eradicate cattle virus , not going well is it . napier and Treat
Trump 2,741 Report post Posted April 10, 2020 If you look at the death stats in Aust from this horrible virus, 2/3rds of the unfortunate deaths are from Cruise Ship customers or Overseas travelers. Also, most are in the elderly pop, and many have underlying health issues. It’s obvious that Border Control is vital as in testing, Self isolation and hygiene. The affect on business is the worst in all of our lifetimes - it’s a f#%king disaster of epic proportions. But why can’t racing continue in a controlled environment- like it is in Australia? dock leaf and Houlahan's Dream
