departed 155 Report post Posted March 27, 2020 NZ has no racing for at least 4 weeks, probably a lot longer. South Australia has just announced that the Oakbank carnival has been cancelled. SA has no jumps jockeys of its own, they mainly come from Victoria and there is a 14 day self isolation for riders crossing the border. Naturally the jumps jockeys in Victoria won't go to SA and have a 14 day self isolation at each end. NZ jumps jockeys could have seen the opportunity and gone to SA for the winter to fill the void. Jumps racing might have been able to continue as there is no ban on horses from other states crossing the border. During the equine influenza closedown many Sydney jockeys relocated to NZ and made the most of the opportunities. We made good use of them and reaped the rewards. Shame NZ jumps jockeys were asleep to the opportunity.

Any number reasons why they wouldn't go across , staying safe at home with family , flight availability , trouble flying back , could be employed in an essential business as well as part time jockey and put the country and it's people before themselves .Maybe dont want to sit in a tin can in air with others .Maybe everyone keep as super safe as they can , keep fitness to something reasonbly safe like a real light jog , use the pink weights at home maybe to just keep as many icu beds open for as long as we can .The more icu beds empty the better it is . Maybe they might have a part time job as a supermarket worker and doing a valiant job helping out these fine young adults at the checkout each day , who would know . Any number of reasons . I hope all reasonable people never forget these youngsters and cleaners , real heros . Iam still working but iam a burnt out old bastard , these others put on spot in these differing jobs that in normal circumstances carry no risk have stepped up big style , that was not on their job description either , nor are they paid to carry the risk . Good Luck on punt tomorrow anyway .
Idolmite 2,459 Report post Posted March 27, 2020 You say there is no ban horses crossing boarders, just jockeys. So they're just going to walk over, trainerless, strapperless etc etc?

I can only assume there is a handover process at a drop off point outside the gates whereby gear is cleaned , distance rules applied that kind of thing . Vinery will be a good race, looks like a match with top two again, will throw in Fascino and Subpoenaed in multis. Sausedge/Insensata early on, Avilius, Star of the Seas other good bets at Rosehill. Interested in the UK horse Surrey Thunder fresh up for Waller. Bendigo - Grand Promenade, Heirborn/ Vegas Jewel, and Fabric. Busuttin stable might have a good day...not Main Stage.....!!??
