Corona Virus Impact on Racing

Recommended Posts

RITA should follow the lead of Air NZ and slash staff numbers by 30%. Betting will plummet over the next few months. No doubt racing coal face participants will bear the brunt of this massive downturn when stakes are slashed next season.

Racing has a chance to fill the void with sports being put on hold . Lets face it not many people turn up at most meetings so they can still be a viable option on TV as the crowd has limited impact on the actual races.Racing has the opportunity to take centre stage .

Shouldn't they be slashing stakes distributions AND staff NOW? They are already essentially insolvent.

trying to be positive racing has a chance here...no sport to bet on anywhere and a lot of people at home with nothing to do.

Big risk though if any jockeys get this we will be shut down, then what???

For a lot of people barely hanging on out there, will be the final nail in the coffin,If racing gets shut down for 6 months what will happen with staff track riders etc?

NZTR should be treating jockeys like kings and queens because if they get sick and have to self isolate we will be screwed

It looks like the TAB are well organised if NZ racing stops, there is now a trackside 3 by the looks of things taking all sorts of racing. Was Mexico(I think) greyhounds today and I see Central Park Bags are just over an hour from kicking off.

“. But nobody has ever been exposed to this before, which means nobody has any immunity to it.”

mmunity

/ɪˈmjuːnɪti/

noun

  • 1.the ability of an organism to resist a particular infection or toxin by the action of specific antibodies or sensitized white blood cells

We all have immunity  :rcf-rich-1:  and obviously immunocompromised and Elderly people less so

Its ‘Common Sense’ if you are lacking in this you will be most at risk and more likely to be a risk to others, but trying to survive through this in itself will compromise best method. Educate, if you are waiting for a vaccine you are most at risk .

Historically once this Disease runs its ‘natural ‘ (depending on your exposure to Uncensored Magazine :rcf-thinking:) course and the numbers of infected are reduced dramatically Big Pharma will come up with a ‘vaccine’ ... I would Strongly advise reading all the literature around anything your introducing straight into your bloodstream( at least read the label)and then make a Choice that best suits you and your family. ....It is YOUR  Choice

To make an informed decision about medical care and medical treatment is not only your right but your responsibility. If you are a parent or primary care-giver it is a right and a responsibility that you hold on behalf of the child or children in your care.

According the New Zealand Ministry of Health (MoH) “Consent is a fundamental concept in the provision of health care services, including immunisation.”

The critical issue is whether or not that consent is informed. Health professionals in New Zealand have a legal obligation to obtain informed consent before any medical treatment or procedure, including vaccination. Informed consent can only be provided by a patient or caregiver (parent) when the patient or caregiver has considered all the information pertaining to the risks and benefits of the proposed treatment or procedure.

Yes consent is important and people will choose to be vaccinated or not but it's also peoples right to stay healthy and not be endangered by people who choose not to be vaccinated (assuming a vaccine exists) . I would suggest as time goes by and infections fall those who refuse vaccination be placed in isolation , it's NOT their right to infect others or prolong any virus .

As an example ,their choices are similar to people who drive dangerous cars or drive under the influence and endanger or cause the death of others , penalty's exist for these people , those who choose to endanger others by not vaccinating should also face penalty's .

In Wellington somes island was once a quarantine centre , perhaps that can be reopened and those who choose not to vaccinate will be moved there .

Racing could easily be wiped out if the downturn in the economy is as great as I  suspect it's going to be , the problem for trade is a double edged sword , even if we control the virus here the financial downturn won't reverse until our trading partners also get their problems under control .

One thing I'm heartily sick of is the constant bombardment of computer enhanced human sized memes with horns and fangs, breathing fire and purporting to be examples of the cv. Nothing quite like appealing to the emotions. As said previously if one jockey gets it, its game over. Can greyhounds catch it too?

If you think Vaccines work why would an unvaccinated person pose a threat?

That's easy , some people can't be vaccinated because existing medical problems . The recent measles out break is a classic example of what happens when vaccinations are missed .

How many 100s of millions have these listed  vaccines saved ? .

Sooner or later a vaccine will be found for this and racing might be saved but until then it's in real danger of becoming a tv only event . Only a couple of weeks and the Manawatu sires produce will be run , I suspect it will be TV only .

You're all talking crap when the flames are building up around you. UK and French racing has stopped, as are races in most of the US states. Racing Victoria puts out a message to all its owners letting them know what's going on. In NZ....nothing material. We are being too complacent because it isn't the fact whether you die or not, its the fact that human behaviour is predictable and that predictability is being demonstrated around the World. One of the real issues is about when you get sick. If it all happens at once, then there are not enough facilities or equipment available. That is my greatest worry (apart from my family dying).

So get your heads together. Get prepared because if you do, you'll help stagger the load to a manageable level. If you don't, you'll simply be saying, if only I had done a bit more.

I have no problem with racing or any other event being a closed shop but ultimately the Brits approach might not be as silly as first seemed . As for us we may dodge a bullet but only short tern ,  we may eliminate it but if the rest of the world still has it then we are still in the crap , closing boarders won't last forever , two way traffic and it's back again .

You must have been impressed with the very  long list of life saving vaccines , let's hope a vaccine is found for this problem if not we are returning to the 30/40s/50s , that's all that can happen if a vaccine isn't found quickly .

Get used to it. EVERYTHING will be locked down eventually. NZ is uniquely situated to be Corvid-19 free. It’s an Island nation inhabited by less people than the City of Melbourne. Apart from Auckland, the population is spread out.

This is the reported situation from researchers in this area. The virus DNA has been isolated and some trials of a vacine have begun but due to legal and production requirements the information is that any vacine will be about 18 months away before it is widely available. In addition it has not been established that people who have had the virus will be immunised against reinfection

The most important message we can take from this is no matter how clever we think mankind is Nature will always have it's way. If you think about all the problems facing the modern world and mankind's feeble efforts to right them this virus addresses a lot.

When the vaccine comes more problems. Those with capital will borrow more to cash in on the huge increase in the sharemarket creating more division. Reports are out that Trump is trying to hijack the cure for Americans only or at least Americans first.  Not convinced nature brought about this catastrophe. 20 years ago there was big debate about bio weapons so that any development would have gone underground and top secret.
