Berri 2,131 Report post Posted February 25, 2020 Can someone please help me. Just noticed that the Auckland Cup is now set weights and penalties (don't know how or when it was changed from a handicap). I have a small stake in Joe's Legacy. He has won 3 from 18 and has a weight of 55kg. On the same weight is Sound, a winner of 7 including a Group 3 in Europe, Etah James (53.5 kg), a winner of 7 including a group 3 (I know shes a mare), Dee and Gee (54kg) a winner of 6 including a Group 3, and Solsiefie (54kg), a winner of 6 including a Group 3, What's the rational on the weight differences? Auckland Racing Club 37 Report post Posted February 25, 2020 Hi Berri - the base weights for the Auckland Cup is 55kg for males and 53kg for females with penalties from there. Sound, being a male, carries the base weight of 55kg and no penalty because he has not won a stakes race for 18 months. Etah James, being female, carries the base weight of 53kg plus a 1/2kg penalty for winning a listed race. Dee and Gee, being a female, carries the base weight of 53kg plus a 1kg penalty for winning a Group 3 race and Soleseifei the same
eljay 1,711 Report post Posted February 25, 2020 Why favour the females - isn't it a "major" race on the NZ Calendar and as such should not favour one sex or the other
Trump 2,741 Report post Posted February 25, 2020 Sound is very well weighted when you consider he’s dropping 4kg for finishing 3rd last week in a Listed race over 2500m at The Valley against pretty good competition and prior to that he carried 59.5kg and 60kg. True Self probably best of them this season . About three ex UK jumpers going this weekend in OZ , two multiple metro winners in OZ after low grade UK jumps runs .
