slam dunk 1,317 Report post Posted February 24, 2020 Big drop expected in US stock market. How bad is coronavirus? Looks like Trump won't see the Dow over 30,000 come election time and doesn't look like he has any tricks up his sleeve. The only thing to halt the rot is a reliable vaccine. Racing like many industries vulnerable. Gruff
6xes 699 Report post Posted February 24, 2020 its definately a interesting situation this coronavirus... i follow alot of the Virtual reality scene... and it seems Wuhan is one of the industrial areas where VR headsets are made, this has caused delays in headsets being shipped out.. affecting sales supposedly. countries, industries cities, communities will be affected if situation is not isolated one would guess... i initially thought it was all a propaganda fear mongering scenario... but mainstream and alternative news are reporting on the situation.... its worth paying attention to.. especially if travelling abroad on a international trip *shrugs*

You need to start doing some research, besides Ashley Bloomfield our Director of Health is already stockpiling Flu Vaccine so you will be fine
Trump 2,741 Report post Posted February 24, 2020 The cover-up is almost as big as this virus. IMHO It’s going to cause a big recession - world wide. I hope Im wrong. Those govts with poor balance sheets are going to have a bad time. Tourism and trade are being hit hard. The Tokyo Olympics are in jeopardy after 20 years of infrastructure planning by the Japanese. Poor buggars. Chinese restaurants are ghost restaurants on the Gold Coast. Tour bus operators are hurting bad. Food exporters to China have to find new markets. It’s chaos and I don’t think people realise how bad it is. Wuhan-400 could be the “big one”.
crustyngrizzly 1,682 Report post Posted February 24, 2020 Wouldn't have happened in Mao Zedongs day. Well looks like Racecafe moderator has no fears with stockmarket plunge plus coronavirus affecting racing as this thread transferred from Thoroughbred section. Guess the racing administrators in Macau, Hong Kong, Italy etc have got it all wrong. As the song goes WHY WORRY!

At the moment showing slight positive but really undecided. What is NZ racing doing to the possibility of coronavirus hitting NZ. The NZ economy is extremely vulnerable. I see in Auckland so many businesses like malls, pubs, eating places, public transport, tourist services, the casino, bars down at the viaduct etc etc that could be severely hit. At least UK racing are aware. https://www.racingpost.com/news/industry-group-set-up-to-ensure-racing-is-prepared-for-coronavirus/424876

A Japanese company reports that it has developed a drug that can kill the influenza virus within 1 day. However, even if the drug proves successful, it likely will not be available in the United States until 2019 at the earliest. According to the company, a late-stage trial involving Japanese and American influenza patients found that for people who took the experimental Shionogi compound, the median time to eliminate the virus was 24 hours. That is much faster than other influenza drugs on the market, and it only requires one dose. Both the experimental compound and oseltamivir phosphate (Tamiflu—Roche), which requires two doses a day for 5 days, take approximately the same amount of time to entirely contain symptoms of influenza; however, Shionogi claims that its compound offered immediate relief more quickly. Shionogi and Roche, which has acquired the international license to distribute Shionogi's experimental drug, are in the final stages of conducting a second late-stage global trial. Other companies are testing new compounds to test influenza A; but Shionogi's is furthest along.
