Memphis2 1,078 Report post Posted January 6, 2020 Race 4 at Gunnedah has a horse in it called Cabriere. Anyone remember this horse? Taranaki I think. Middle distance specialist. Open handicapper. Race 5 competitor when r5 was the open distance race. R7 was the open sprint. All over the shop nowadays. Go Cabriere at Gunnedah. Paying $26 FO
crustyngrizzly 1,701 Report post Posted January 6, 2020 Name rings a bell. Memory tell me it was related somehow to NUNUI a flyer in the old days out of the Collett stable in Te Awamutu. he was by Golden Plume(not 100% sure) out of Splendid Jewel. Blue 1,099 Report post Posted January 6, 2020 Early 60s ran good races in age group classics but ran up against Commanding who carried all before him though was still top stakeswinning 2yo in 60/61. Then ran up against Cracksman as a 3yo.but won the Wanganui Guineas. Lots of placings in good races but just couldn't best some top horses in the big races. Nonetheless a handy horse as I remember. rdytdy 5,343 Report post Posted January 6, 2020 Cabriere was a very good horse who won 23 races in the 1960s. Raced by Bill Ansford. Clearly remember the chocolate colours with red, yellow and green hoops and a red cap. Memphis2

Few horses today would have half that many starts. Memphis2

I stand corrected but boy, weren't there a goodly number of consistent horses around in the 60s? Good memories.
