My trainer Melbourne $100 +gst per day and monthly $100 vitamins + $100 chiropractor. Horse always seems to be shod every month also, on trainers bill only so who knows.  City seems to range between $100 and $135 per day; Country Aust seems to be as low as $65 per day. Some charge extras some don't.

And the horse is running for decent coin there with plenty of races each week to aim at , 100 bucks a day at Riccarton might be different with odd race here and there for peanuts .

Agreed.  Good money even in the country over here. But then good horses that fly in from NZ can and do earn it.

That Defibulate picking up some cash , think I saw it on 53kgs on noms this week still getting 6kgs off Alfarris who's no world beater so Defib should get more before he goes too high .

Defibrillate has collected 150k AUD since Oct over there , 74k 1st 24k 2nd and he's nailed on 1st or 2nd tomorrow . If you survive the heat and smog it's the place to be racing a half decent horse .

If one is astute one can pick up a going horse, at a reasonable figure from Inglis online digital, that is not up to City racing but very suitable for the country. Two sales per month it's that popular.

Really, it depends on how well you want your horse trained and “maintained” in good health. A friend of mine has a “handy” horse and until recently it was with a Melb Trainer - a G1 type of trainer. It did nothing at its latest 3 starts from a spell, so thought it might be better off in Qld. I when asked, I told him that if it’s got any ability, Tony Gollan will find it and he will give you an honest opinion. So, about 2 weeks ago, he transferred it to TG. First thing he did was get his Vet to scope the horse, dentist check, chiropractor/phisio check. There goes about $500! The horse arrived looking a treat so previous good trainer did a good job there. However, the chiro/physio found the horse had a tender part in a shoulder - which have occurred on trip from Melb to Bris. Nothing serious but it was bothering the horse. A bit of treatment and an injection of some sort and the horse has no soreness. Should be racing soon. TG is the leading trainer in BRis and has a beautiful stable complex at Eagle Farm Centre. He charges about $99 per day in full training. Then there’s Gastrazol $5.50 per day, track fees $5.50 per day, pentosan, saline drenches, pre-race vit’s, Ovumate (if a filly), etc etc etc! So really, it ends up about $4k per month. But, as some have pointed out, if you’re  racing in a $10k maiden to win (after trainer -jockey %) about $5k, it’s a hard task and no matter your enthusiasm, it doesn’t make sense. Hence Stakes are very important. The Trainers have a job to do and have your horse fit AND healthy. It’s the Racing Administrators job to ensure that the Stakes are “high” enough to help at least provide relief to the winners/place getters, and encouragement to stay in. $10k races won’t do that. Owners have to net (imho) at least 3 - 4 months costs out of a win. JMHO.

Transport costs to the two tracks would be zero , Riccarton to say Timaru would take a bit out of stake money winnings .

If you have a horse trained at Eagle Farm and you race at Doomben, just across Nudgee Road, it costs $27.50 to return transport them. So if you race twice at Doomben in a month, there’s $55 just to go over the road! But if you’re racing on a Sat, minimum stake for a race is $75k.

Iam guessing 27 bucks would get from Riccarton Stable block  to big Couplands bakery on way to Main South Road .

Odd one those two tracks next door to one another , like the football clubs back in UK, Dundee at one end street and Dundee Utd at other, could kick a ball one to other  , Notts County and Forest next door , think it's just river between them .

I do hope these horse floats have all been emission tested by Greta,  she will be very unhappy if not . The system of training and racing on track would however get the Greta tick of approval .

It's a good job people enjoy racing horses here , it's economic madness in the extreme in most part but life's not all about money , the stakes to cost gap does really need narrowing though  .Same in UK however a cheap all weather performer that can go in claimers and sellers with a bit of a punt has potential. That's if you like Southwell and Lingfield at minus degrees in winter .

50 quid a day now at Jonjo O'Neil's in UK and 80 quid gallops fee a month plus the usual extras according to his website , it's a beautiful facility though,  been many trainers pass through there over years . The decent trainers have own transport and costs go down the more trucked to meeting , like sharing an Uber . Newmarket to Hamilton in Scotland with only one going as an owner you would want to know the trainer is very confident unless very deep pockets .

Stone wall 54 plus GST.very very cheap. I would think no profit in that.dont see many rolls royces in the trainers car park.mostly ladas or skodas.mind you running for 10k at ellerslie means  u have to be very rich to make it economic.to get a small fortune u better start with a large one.harness day in day out much better value.race every week no nom fees and money to start.come to the darkside
