Invariably names crop up again. I see a horse in the States under the name Firing Line. We had a 'Firing Line' farm hack back in the 50's and I recall something by him winning a few races in that era. Used to know the mare too but the memory's a bit faded. Do you have any info on him just for interests sake please.

Blue Firing Line was bred in 1945 by Foxbridge out of Caliente who was by Polazel out of Phar Lap’s full sister Fortune’s Wheel. He was owned by JL Webb and trained at Takanini by FE Hall. He raced 38 times for only one win. Remarkably that was at Avondale on the 14/1/50 when he won the Bollard Memorial over 11 furlongs creating a then NZ Record of 2.15.6. Larry Wiggins the jockey. From limited opportunities at stud he sired three winners. Remarkably they won 21 races between them. Backfire an East Coast specialist won 10. Awol 6 and Deep Stream 5.

Blue yes Deep Stream was owned and trained by Alec Charleston a well known Amateur Rider. Trained at Karamu. His last win was the 1964 Pakuranga Cup owned, trained and ridden by Alec. Gold Tie and Baggy Hillis second. Rethea and Jim Gibbs third and Braemar and Jim Hely fourth.

I love all this historical stuff...you guys have got all the info!

So, as a complete curiosity...what can you tell me about a horse I remember from the late 1970s-early 1980s called STAR DELTA ...all i can recall is that Jim Gibbs trained it at Matamata, and it raced here and in Oz

Jim. Happy Thursday evening to you lovely man. Your mention of Larry (HN) WIGGINS in your post about Back Fire brings back many memories from my Dad's stories

about Larry Wiggins. One of the all time greats Larry Wiggins rode 946 winners n NZ

3 more than Hector The Protector Gray

How many Railway winners did Larry ride  ? was it 5 ?

He trained at Warwick Farm later in life.

He rode for the Agar Khan.He wore  silks in Ireland, France, Italy and America.

He was a fitness addict and sparred with my dad at the Auckland Gym
