Had a few rides on the tracks have we Insider?

We need a few Strath Ayr tracks obviously, shutting down all the country tracks isn’t going to solve a lot, especially the ones that are looked after by the volunteers.

As I was saying, those CD tracks are bogs in the winter, field sizes say that!

TeAroha and Taupo bush, might pay to get your map out!

All weather in Cambridge will be great!

I think Insider meant swamp for Te Aroha.  Meeting abandoned tomorrow enough rain to (124 mls plus) fill a lake.

Yes was good to see the track back to its best after the last few years being very in different and poorly presented. Obviously they now the penny has dropped about keeping these tracks in better order and they have seen the results with great fields, fair racing and good support from the crowd. Big thumbs up.

Back to its best?? Jeez what have you been watching. Last year it was a firm track again and brilliantly presented. The new caretaker has carried on the great work of Karl Stratton (the previous caretaker, now President) who had the place looking like Augusta. But it doesnt matter now eh. The "2 minute wonders" have got what they want from Mr Messaras drive thru assessment of NZ racing and will think that closing down the likes of Hawera (who actually own their land - it is NOT the councils!) is the best thing for our industry. What I look forward to are those clubs who survive (for now) and the pressures they will be under. They will have NO EXCUSES for poor turnover or small crowds. None at all. But the formula will bring prosperity (Tui ad). When they do not come up trumps thats when things get really interesting. Who goes next?? New Plymouth? Pukekohe? Otaki? All second tier courses who are 4th tier achievers. Its going to be an amusing decade ahead. Who will be the first to admit they were wrong to get rid of our better clubs of today?

Pretty hard to disagree with any of that.

And am a bit disappointed that we are yet to see Rita come out and say something like: "yes, we acknowledge that not all of the Messara recommendations may have been well thought through and we are revisiting some of them."

Sadly,  there won't be any admissions of error.

The track closure notion has been beloved of Jackson and Saundry from well before the Messara report,  and also held by some of the bigger names in the training ranks.

Clearly,  J.M was ill-advised on several issues.

Reportedly around the $160,000 on course      Not bad.      I guess the Messara mantrix followers believe that local on course money will happily go down to Awapuni Trentham when Hawera closes.

Guess the fat cat trainers and studs in the Waikato would love nothing better than the world revolving around them.

What defines a "better club"? What measurements determine what clubs are top tier achievers? What makes a club a 4th tier achiever?

That's right Torch turn on the light if you cant see( Back to its Best) go back a few years and the stipes were there  turning up to tell them to fill in the holes or don't race. Fact. Then the run of horse breaking down half way up straight.  As for Karl had done a great job when he was only filling in as a part timer from his full time job is disputable but now  Barry is there on  the job yes the place is back to a more presentable venue.

Hilarious tripe. Karl had the place immaculate. Id say his years at Te Ngutu would be a slight advantage over your knowledge (remember your an unknown hiding behind a username so we wouldnt have a clue what your credentials are). Ive been at three of the last 6 spring meetings and the track has been great. You’re not from NP by any chance? Sorted out that council issue?? Fancy sitting on tender hooks over a pointless name change. Oh well image over substance is the way now. Lol.

Yes you got that wrong not from NP as for Carey running greyhound track with rail out 10 or more metres is another issue but he did get Opunake to take their meeting to NP

On course  reported up %100  Helped by strong punter club having a good day and young people enjoying them selves some betting as well.

This along with large quality fields on a good track surface ,yes it was an enjoyable day at the races.

. Hawera race course is sheltered to the northerly rains by MT Egmont, so does not get the rain that other parts of Taranaki get, this together with the free draining soil makes

this course  well suited to spring racing !   next race meeting is at the end of January 2020. Not so clever.

New Zealand racing is operated on two islands, there are courses where racing should be conducted to suit the weather. eg  spring racing Hastings, Hawera  etc.

Now all we need is independent on course only bookies and racing will be booming.

regards Red from naki.
