Darren Weir charged with animal cruelty, conspiracy to defraud

https://www.theage.com.au/national/victoria/prized-flemington-race-at-centre-of-weir-criminal-probe-20191009-p52z6o.html

Last year's Grand National at Sandown, a race in which both Weir and McLean featured prominently, is also under scrutiny. McLean-trained Cougar Express won the race.

Police interest in that race centres on the riding tactics employed by Allen at Weir's instructions and whether they helped the McLean-trained Cougar Express win the race.

Weir is facing nine charges including conspiracy to defraud racing stewards, cruelty to animals and weapons offences......... 51AD2693-F984-4F27-81A6-FE958CBCB96B.png

They must have some high tech equipment, the ride on Trap for fools in the Mckinnon didnt look any different to the Australian Cup and Peter Young efforts, the odd one out was the weaker ride when unplaced at Moonee valley in the Carlyon ...they will do well to make these charges stick :rcf-thinking:

“Distressing vision of one of Darren Weir's prized horses being tormented with an electric prod in preparation for last year's Melbourne Cup may be a crucial piece of evidence in the case against the disgraced trainer and two of his associates.

The emergence of the video at the start of a new spring carnival directly links the Weir scandal to Australia's greatest horse race.

Video footage obtained by Victoria Police detectives and shown to racing authorities shows Red Cardinal being "jiggered" in the neck by stablehand Tyson Kermond as it "jog trots" on a treadmill inside Weir's Warrnambool stables.
The footage, which runs for about 20 seconds, allegedly shows Weir and stable foreman Jarrod McLean looking on as the horse is repeatedly subjected to the painful ordeal on the weekend before the running of the Cup.”

Well done to the Victorian Police for exposing this disgusting behaviour and building up the investigation and executing a well planned premises search over  big area with livestock involved. They appear to have managed well the potential of offenders disposing of any incriminating evidence as they go in to get to a point where the case can be put before the Courts , of course they haven't been convicted yet so it will all be laid bare in time.

It appears the jiggers were not only in master bedroom for save keeping .

My understanding is jiggers were used in connection with blinkers on , be interesting to see how many first time in prep blinkers on his stable won with compared to other stables . Brave Smash flew home last year in Grp 1 and they made big play of Dazzer saving blinkers for big one .
