JJ Flash 2,136 Report post Posted September 13, 2019 Things are obviously not well with this fine trotter, a shadow of himself again last night. Driven conservatively he was off the bit at the 500 and basically ran last. What does one make of this comment from his trainer to RIU re last weeks run Race 7 - DYERS ROAD ITM HANDICAP TROT September 7 Co-Trainer G Hope advised Stewards on 9 September that MONBET has recovered well subsequent to its run at Addington on Friday and worked in pleasing fashion yesterday. Mr Hope added that in his opinion the gelding was not suited to the wet track in its fresh up assignment and confirmed that MONBET will continue its preparation. Will R May jump ship to stablemate in the near future?? Does retirement beckon?? Greg
Rusty 575 Report post Posted September 13, 2019 Always a bit of shame to see past champs get put to the sword in races. It doesn't undo their past achievements, however one can only hope (no pun intended) that the connections do the right thing and give him a happy retirement if the on track performances continue to not measure up. He has been a great servant to the stable but somethings horribly wrong at present.Amazed RIU did not ask the question again last night or ask R May for his thoughts as it was a woeful performance from Monbet Greg

They asked him to report on horse post race last week so why not ask again last night in the interests of the punters who did their hard earned again. Greg They probably should have asked again, but why would anyone want to risk backing him again Friday night without a positive report of much improvement? A Good horse is still a good horse, age has a say and I feel we might have to wait a while to see him at his best, The Hopes know what they are doing and more racing should improve him, Rickey is reading the script very well, not knocking him around and the match fitness will come, What the fixed odds on the Dominion,
JJ Flash 2,136 Report post Posted October 25, 2019 Looks like his racing days may well be over after going amiss again. Full story is on HRNZ site. Looks like the old body has had enough. Greg
